i am a huge fan of Dennis Dixon

but what i am curious about is whether he is just a great college QB and flop in the pros or can he be a great QB in the NFL as well?

he might play baseball, he's already in the atlanta braves farm system, though he struggled last year.

footballsfuture has him as there 4th rated qb though that may just include senior qb's and might not be updated but maybe people think he'd be better as a WR who knows. id probably wait til the combine to find out more info on his future.

Dixon will be going through the combine this year, more likely than not. He's generated so much positive buzz for himself that he may have vaulted his stock from the absolute dregs to the first day of the draft.

From what I've heard, he will be exploring his options to the fullest with football; that doesn't necessarily mean that baseball is a fall-back option, but it could work out that way. He'll be an interesting one to track.

Bump.

Now he's gone from a day one possibility to a 6th-7th rounder. His best bet is to market himself as a developmental QB who can play some WR and highlight his huge hands, speed and improved decision making. I say he still gets drafted; who knows.

imo, i think he should just stick to baseball unless someone guarantees him that he will be a day 1 pick.

That would be a terrible idea. He has so much momentum he can still ride.

i agree, he has plenty of momentum and should use it to his advantage, before he had left the game the Ducks were doing very well and had a small lead and were rallying behind Dixon, after he was hurt and left the game the Ducks fell apart and there is no doubt they would have won if he was still in the game. He is a great leader who i think has a shot at making it in the NFL because of his passing and rushing ability. I see him going maybe 4th round.

The knee injury is real troublesome. Look at two other QBs who relied on a lot of mobility to make them very effective--McNabb and Culpepper. Once they got those knee injuries they weren't even close to their former selves. Dixon already had a couple of strikes:
1. Spread offense
2. inability to definitively win the QB job from a Leaf brother

plus with the baseball factor, I really don't see him having much draft value.

I think it was Icness that said the Titans should look at him, and I agree completely.

His weight isn't an issue IMO, because any team taking him knows they are going to need to develop him. in 2-3 years he could have increased arm strength, body mass and had time to learn pro style offense.

I'd take a flyer on him.

eh, i don't really think the titans would need him cause of vince young.

a team i can think of that can use him is the bears, maybe they draft him in a middle to late round and develop him behind brian griese or rex grossman, whichever QB is starting for them next year. Than when Dixon is ready to take over get rid of both those QB's and let Dixon get his turn. I mean he can't possibly do worse than Griese or Grossman has done for the Bears.

That's the point, if Vince goes down, they have a guy who can come in without reinventing an offense.

well, he's not faster than vince young and he's certainly not as tough as vince young. if i were the titans, i wouldn't touch this guy. plus, dixon isn't a proven passer and most of his plays in college are option runs so i don't know how he will survive in the pro league. this guy is not a nfl type of QB. he's strictly a college type QB.

That is why they have Kerry Collins. Here is a question would you want an unproven rookie who most people doubt can be an NFL QB backing up your franchise player or would you want a proven veteran backing up your franchise player, or would it be a better situation for that QB to develop under a QB for a few years so that he can learn what it takes to be a QB in the NFL? If Vince Young went down Dixon would be rushed into action and would not be ready at all if he had to play as a rookie. But if you put him in a situation(such as Chicago) where he can sit behind a QB such as Grossman or Griese for at least 2 seasons that he would be better prepared to play. That's my opinion.
