Padres @ Mets

Post#1 » by Manhattan Project » Mon Aug 20, 2007 10:02 pm

Tuesday, August 21 7:10 PM ET
Chris Young, RHP (9-4, 1.93)
John Maine, RHP (13-7, 3.59)
Mets (70-53)

Scouting Report:
Padres: Young dominated against the Rockies on Wednesday, tossing six scoreless innings. But his efforts were spoiled when the Rockies scored three runs later in the game off San Diego relievers. It marked his fourth consecutive home game in which he hasn't given up a run. He looked as if he got his confidence back and even said after the game he felt he threw much sharper pitches.

Mets: Maine's earned run average increased for the third time in three starts on Wednesday night against the Pirates. Maine struggled after he had been afforded a 5-0 lead before his first pitch. He threw 117 pitches, his second highest total this season, but pitched merely five innings. When he threw more, 121 against the Astros on July 5, he pitched 7 2/3 inning. He had a 5-0 lead in that game as well, but not until the sixth inning. Maine has pitched merely 13 innings in his past three starts -- two losses and a victory. His ERA in those games was 10.38.

Wednesday, August 22 P7:10 PM ET
SD Clay Hensley, RHP (2-3, 6.70)
Brian Lawrence, RHP (1-0, 5.06)

Scouting Report:
Padres: The newest starter in the Padres rotation didn't have his best stuff on Thursday night against the Colorado Rockies. Although he gave up a total of six runs, he still came out with the win thanks to a nine-run fifth inning that propelled San Diego to a series victory. Hensley admitted he wasn't as sharp on Thursday -- especially with his fastball -- but Padres manager Bud Black allowed his starter to pitch out of some trouble after visiting him on the mound in the second inning. Hensley tossed five innings, allowing six runs on six hits while striking out two to collect his second win.

Mets: Before the bullpen betrayed him in Pittsburgh on Thursday, Lawrence was in position to win -- but not because he pitched well. He allowed four runs on four hits and four walks -- three to batters leading off innings. Despite appearing in more than 150 Major League games, Lawrence has somehow yet to face the Padres.

Thursday, August 23 7:10 PM ET
SD Jake Peavy, RHP (13-5, 2.19)
NYM Tom Glavine, LHP (11-6, 4.12)

Scouting Report:
Padres: Peavy was in a pitchers' duel with the Astros' Woody Williams on Friday, but Peavy ended the night with a no-decision. He allowed just one run -- a homer to Lance Berkman -- over seven innings. The upside to Friday night's game was that Peavy fanned 11 batters, his sixth double-digit strikeout game this season and the 21st of his career. The no-decision snapped a four-game winning streak that began in Houston on July 27.

Mets: Victory No. 301 was accomplished without much of a fight from the Washington Nationals. Glavine pitched seven innings, allowing one run and permitting only two runners to get to third base. He also moved into a tie for 27th on the all-time strikeout list with his 2,555th strikeout. He'll look to continue his recent success against a Padres squad that is also stacked with pitching talent. Glavine threw 116 pitches last Friday, but said that having six days off would allow him to fully recover.

BIG SERIES!

Although, if we pound the Pods too badly, we'd allow the Phils or Braves to take over the Wild Card lead... meh, just win the series!

Game is in the bag?

Maine completely threw a **** terrible game today. Something is wrong with him. This is the worst offense in the NL and he is struggling.
