"The Realness" 2 round Mock Draft-(COMPLETED)
1. Miami Dolphins-DE Chris Long Virginia
Parcells switching to 3-4, Ties to AL Groh, Football pedigree, and leader. Chris Long WILL BE A .............MIAMI DOLPHIN.
2. St. Louis Rams- DE/OLB Vernon Gholston Ohio State
Another team with whispers on wanting to change to a 3-4. Haslett has gone on the record stating they would love to play 3-4 all the time but dont have the players. Gholston would fit in as an OLB or end. Either way he is a better fit then Dorsey at this point.
3. Oakland Raiders- DT Glenn Dorsey LSU
Jemarcus gets an old friend to come in and help out the defense. Since Rob Ryan is winning the power struggle in Oakland I feel real good about this pick going to the defense.
4. Atlanta Falcons- RB Darren McFadden Arkansas
Blank needs someone to fill up the seats and McFadden is a big name to help do that.
5. Kansas City Cheifs- OT Jake Long Michigan
Obvious pick here as they are in desperate need for offensive lineman.
6. New York Jets- QB Matt Ryan Boston College
I think this may be a trade spot for the Jets but then again this pick may be the real deal. Jets are really down on Clemens and this is pretty much the BPA at this spot right here.
7. Denver Broncos(via trade with Pats)- DT Shaun Ellis USC
Broncos trade up to secure the DT they covet.
8. Baltimore Ravens- OT Ryan Clady Boise State
With the impending retirement of Ogden and Matty Ice being off the board this is a nice spot for Clady here.
9. Cincinnatti Bengals- OLB Keith Rivers USC
Bengals need help all over the defense but Rivers should prove to be a special player.
10. New Orleans Saints- CB Michael Jenkins South Florida
They need someone to come in and help out that secondary
11. Buffalo Bills- FS Kenny Phillips Miami
Bills love to go to the U for players and they have a huge void at Free Safety. Phillips is a sweet fit at this spot of the draft.
12. New England Patriots(via trade)- DE/OLB Derrick Harvey Florida
The Patriots will never spend a 1st round pick on a corner and this may be a bit early to jump on Harvey but I think this is a player they target. He fits perfect into there 3-4 scheme as an OLB and they must get younger and more athletic at that spot. Look for them to trade out of this spot and pick up more players later in the draft or future picks.
13. Carolina Panthers- QB Brian Brohm Louisville
Panthers need to get some stability at QB. This pick could even end up being Chad Henne.
14. Chicago Bears- OT Jeff Otah Pittsburgh
Absolute Beast to finally replace the waste of space called Fred Miller.
15. Detroit Lions- CB Aquib Talib Kansas
There corners stunk so they jump on Talib with this pick.
16. Arizona Cardinals- DT Kentwan Balmer North Carolina
Cardinals are looking to switch to a 3-4 defense so they need to get bigger ends. Balmer at 6'5 295 is the perfect fit at end on this defense.
17. Minnesota Vikings- WR DeSean Jackson Cal
Already fits into Childress West Coast offense. Also adds a much needed weapon for Tavoris.
18. Houston Texans- RB Rashard Mendenhall Illinois
This pick could be Stewart,Jones, etc etc but I am pretty sure they will grab a franchise runner.
19. Philadelphia Eagles- OLB Dan Connor Penn State
Spikes went down to injury and they where left with very little depth. Great value in this spot of the draft.
20. Tampa Bay Bucs- OT Sam Baker USC
Donald Penn was okay at LT but hey can get better and Baker is a solid tackle who at very least will give them a quality depth.
21. Washington Redskins- DE Calais Campbell UM
Campbell is another product of the U that will get a chance to play for the Skins.
22. Dallas Cowboys- CB Leodis Mcklevin Troy
They struck gold going to Troy for Ware so why not go back to the well and see if it works out at corner.
23. Pittsburgh Steelers- FS Reggie Smith Oklahoma
This is one of the biggest glaring holes on there defense. Lets not forget Anthony Smith.
24. Tennessee Titans- WR Limas Sweed Texas
Titans need a playmaker on offense to help out Young. ALready comes in with a great repore with Young as an ex longhorn.
25. Seattle Seahawks- RB Johnthan Stewart Oregan
Absolute beast and total steal here at this spot.
26. Jacksonville Jaguars- DE Philip Merling Clemson
They have been wanting to get a young defensive end for a while now and Merling's stock is climbing.
27. Dallas Cowboys- RB Felix Jones Arkansas
Jerry will not pass on Jones with this pick.
28. San Francisco- WR Malcolm Kelly Oklahoma
Mike Martz will want weapons and he will get one in this spot.
29. San Diego Chargers- RT Gosder Cherilus Boston College
Perfect RT for them and adds quality depth.
30. Green Bay Packers- CB Charles Godfrey Iowa
Big physical corner they like.
31. N.Y. Giants- CB Tracy Porter Indiana
Will make for a very nice nickel corner for them.
Will finish later on tonite to stay tuned
32. Forfeited (New England)
2nd Round
33. Miami Dolphins- TE John Carlson Notre Dame
Parcells and Sparano swear by the TE so it would in there best interest to secure the best in this draft.
34. St. Louis Rams- OT/OG Chris Williams Vanderbilt
Versatile lineman they despereately need.
35. Oakland Raiders- RB Chris Johnson East Carolina
Lamont Jordon and Fargas could both be gone.
36. Atlanta Falcons- QB Chad Henne Michigan
Has been playing lights out and has now gone above Andre Woodson.
37. Kansas City Cheifs- WR Early Doucet LSU
The hit a homerun with Bowe so why not get his old college running mate to put on the other side.
38. New York Jets- DE/OLB Quentin Groves Auburn
39. Baltimore Ravens- QB Joe Flacco Deleware
40. San Francisco 49ers- OG Roy Scheuning Oregan State
41. New Orleans Saints- DT Pat Sims Auburn
42. Buffalo Bills- TE Fred Davis USC
43. Denver Broncos- ILB Curtis Lofton Oklahoma
44. Carolina Panthers- OT Carl Nicks Nebraska
45. New England Patriots- OLB Phillip Wheeler Georgia Tech

Child I gave you two articles in which they take direct quotes from Haslett saying that he likes to play the 3-4. One of them actually comes from the Official Rams site. Ask any of the experts on here and they will tell you that they like to play a hybrid style of defense. Gholston gives them more flexibility to continue to do this. Gholston also can be there speed end since Little and Hall are heading into the twilight of there careers. Haslett is born and bred from the 3-4 defense and of course he loves to play that style but doesnt have the personel to do it yet. He is slowly getting it though. Carriker in my own opinion was drafted knowing that the switch to a 3-4 was coming soon. He the the pefect fit at end in a 3-4.

I wouldnt write this stuff unless I had some legitimate info Child. Why would the Rams draft another tackle????? Haslett loves Glover and they already have two budding stars in Ryan and Carriker. In a 4-3 Glover and Carriker at the DT's with Little and Hall on the outside. In a 3-4 Gholston comes in as the Rush OLB and Ryan goes to NT with Carriker and Glover at end. Gholston is the perfect peice they need to continue using this hybrid defense.

Where does it say that Haslett wants to immediately switch to a 3-4? From what I have read in many forums is that Linehan likes our defense how it is.
I am not opposed to switching it, its just that I think from what I have seen we won't switch next season.
They ballooned Carriker up to 320 where he was solid in the middle. Clifton Ryan made our defense work.
Will Witherspoon has played his best football at MLB, Pisa has been a solid weakside linebacker.
From what Icness has said with the rams being high on Jake Long I would not be surprised if he was the pick IF Chris is gone.
What happens if we take Chris? He is a 4-3 DE/

If you guys take Chris he is a natural defense end in a 3-4 or 4-3 it doesnt matter. Jake Long I have a hard time trying to beleive because they will be paying top top dollar for a backup to Pace and Barron.

Not saying that there going to a full time switch Child but with all these articles it looks like they want to continue the process of using the 3-4 more often. Carriker is an Olshansky clone. At 320 he can still play end in the 3-4 because he has the speed of an end. Ryan is also a nice player. Why would they go for DT at #2 is beyond me. Dorsey would be okay I guess but he doesnt offer them the flexibilty of Gholston who could be the next Demarcus Ware. Rams paying Jake Long huge amounts to money just seems like a waste for me when in my draft they will have a nice selection on tackles to choose from in the 2nd. Pace and Barron dont seem to be going anywhere so your going to pay 25 mil plus for a backup offensive lineman????? You have to be cap smart while picking too.

Yeah we blitzed in the 3-4 alot this season. I am not saying we won't become a 4-3 ever I am just saying I don't think we will under Linehan.
The other thing you have to consider is that we wanna extend Jackson this summer....we need to keep him happy and with the amount of injuries our Oline has suffered drafting the top LT shows we care.
I am sure Long will we worth the money.
Mayock has said that Phillips might fall to the second, I am thinking that if he falls the rams will trade up a bit to get him.
Gholston is a Ware clown, and I am not against drafting him at all.
Didn't you have us taking Dorsey a mock ago?

Must of been one of my earlier mocks not any of the recent ones. I have been doing extensive research on team needs lately and that is how I found all these Ram articles. Dorsey would be okay but just a bit repetetive with what you already have in Glover,Carriker, and Ryan. And he isnt flexible enough to play end in a 3-4 or Nose. With Little and Hall aging I think it would be in the best interest of this defense to add a guy like Gholston who can wreck havoc in so many ways. He can play on the line in the 4-3 then switch to OLB in the 3-4. Too say Linehan is married to the 4-3 doesnt seem to make much sense since he is an offensive guy. I would figure we would want to go with whatever Haslett feels is best for the team. I think you guys will continue to play hybrid defense until you get more players to fit the system full time.
Take a look at the second round where I have Chris Williams falling to you. He will be a great addition to your line.

I could also see the Rams trying to deal down a few spots maybe with K.C. and get an extra pick. K.C. needs Long the most so I can see where interest can start being drummed up. Then you can take Gholston at #5 before the Jets. Might be a win win for both clubs.

Oh, thats harsh.
Oh, and if J Leman goes in the 2nd round, someone needs to be shot.
I agree Lehman shouldnt go in the second. I corrected the Giants pick and gave them Crable who will give them more linebacker depth.

I have heard many people put DeSean Jackson in this spot. What seperates him so much from Limas Sweed and Malcolm Kelly? Both guys are a bit bigger (I believe) An example is the Draft Board that realgm just put out has Sweed as the 12th best talent, Kelly as the 20th and Jackson as the 42nd behind three other WR's (Doucet, Caldwell, Hardy)
Now, if you are just copying what others have had in this part of the mock it is all good, but you appear to have some insight labeling Jackson as a good WCO fit.
In the second round you have us grabbing DE Lawrence Jackson USC. This will not be the case. The vikings appear pretty sure to add a Vet DE to their young core. We have spent numerous early picks on DE and we have good depth, but we need a vet. So we will not grab a rookie DE unless one of the studs drop. Instead I would see us trying to secure some youth and depth in safety. Our hope would be for Phillips to fall to us in the first, but now in the second there is a decent handful of prospects.
S Thomas DeCoud Cal
S Craig Steltz LSU
SS Tom Zbikowski Notre Dame (all you have in your second round) The problem is that none of these guys are 2nd round talents, (as Iceness has said, horrible draft for safety) so perhaps the vikings just go for BPA, or maybe even a TE. But they will not grab a DE
Honestly, I could see them trading this pick.

Jackson is 6'0 166lbs, I am having problems getting excited about that. He is very fast, and is a playmaker. How are his hands? The vikings tried a fast playmaker in the 1st rd and his hands were crap. I have yet to read anything positive or negative about his hands. his 4.2 speed is very attractive.
Sweed is 6'5 220 with very good red zone-jump ball ability. But is average at best with speed. The Roy Williams comparisons could be valid, or simply a product of the Texas connection. Either way, could he be a poor man's Plax?
Problem is both of these guys have had injuries this year. Sweed's was much worse and could cause him to drop big time.
Kelly is 6'4 217 you could argue he has the best hands of the group. But does not seem as polished as the other 2 guys. But his hands, his 4.47 time and size have great promise.
Unless the vikings trade, they are hoping Phillps falls to them.

Jake probably won't start right away, but if he impresses maybe at one of the Guard spots. Chances are someone gets injured and with Jake we will have a solid line for years.
Jake Long __________ Richie Incognito_________ Alex Barron
Barron is a solid RT, if it weren't for the penalties he always takes he could be a top 10 RT.
I really want Chris Long and then Gosder Chelrius or Sam Baker in the second. Jake isn't my preferred pick but I would have no problem with it.
What would be wrong with having a Demarcus Ware on the St.Louis Rams. Our whole problem is getting to the QB. We can run stuff just not pressure the QB.
Our secondary is not bad, but the QB has all day.
Speaking of our secondary Mayock said Phillips could fall into the second..... Chris Long and Kenny Phillips anyone?

I'm pretty sure thats every Rams fan wet dream, but I doubt it will happen. I would just happy if the Rams could pull off a trade to go down about 5 spots.

Nothing, but you called the kid a clown.
Honestly I would rather have C. Long or Dorsey over J. Long. Or trade down to get Vernon.

I like Jackson for the Vikings because he has played in the WCO system at CAL under Jeff Tedford. They also already have a couple of big receivers in Williamson and Rice. I know they recently got Allison but Jackson seems to have some awesome playmaking abilities. Did you happen to see that catch against Air Force in there bowl game where he dove into the corner of the endzone to make an incredible catch or the return vs Tennessee. He has dynamic speed. If safety is the fit in the second round then I will look into it and change the pick accordingly but for the value Jackson is a nice fit. Shouldnt you be chalking up Erasmus James as a bust at this point?
