Let's keep this going. Maybe a merge when we are done with each thread?

Vernon Gholston

Not on STL DE had more than two sacks last season... OT is a definite need, but DE is an immediate need...

Why in the world would you guys pick Jake Long at #2 when you already have Orlando Pace who has said numerous times this offseason that he will be coming back and not even close to retiring and then you have Alex Barron at RT. So you guys are willing to give 28+ Million to a potential guard???? St. Louis had line woes last year because there team was jinxed and everyone got hurt including the backups backup. Many of those guys are coming back healthy. Let alone this is a very deep tackle draft so one will be there to develop behind Pace in the second (Nicks,Cherilus, etc etc)

With very minimal cap space and a huge pressing need to get a younger end on defense with Little and Hall literally on there last leg. The smart pick both for the team and financially would be

DE/OLB Vernon Gholston Ohio State

Very smart man you are. OT is a definite need but not at 28 million when you have a high priced LT in Pace and a RT in Barron who is also getting 1st round money. Hands down in the second Sam Baker,Gosder Cherilus, and Carl Nicks will be there when the Rams pick in the second. I suggest those who have picked Jake Long would atleast put up a good argument other then to replace Pace.

Marc Bulger admits his mechanics regressed in 2007.

Impact:
The first step to correcting a mistake is realizing it's a mistake. The second for Bulger is getting protection. The Rams will return LT Orlando Pace in 2008 and Alex Barron at right tackle. It's also likely that they'll address line depth in April's draft. Better protection should lead to improved mechanics.

LT Orlando Pace has been working out at the team facility and is said to be 80 percent recovered from a torn labrum in his shoulder, suffered in the 2007 season opener. 02/18/2008

Despite back-to-back season-ending injuries, Orlando Pace said Thursday that he doesn't plan to retire.
"I'm going to come back and play," Pace said. "I will play. Initially, [retirement] crosses your mind. You think, 'Man, I can't go through another year like this.' I've done a lot of good things in the league, and I want to continue to do more. I don't want to have an injury force me out, or somebody else telling me: 'You can't play anymore. So that's the one thing that really drives me, and that's going to drive me to play another couple years, hopefully."Source: St Louis Post-Dispatch

Team Needs/Offseason strategy

1. Defensive end: Leonard Little and James Hall are in their 30s and Little is coming off toe surgery. Another pass rusher is needed.

2. Offensive line: So many players are coming back from injury, it's impossible to know who will be healthy for 2008. But some depth is needed at tackle, and don't be surprised if the Rams pursue guard Alan Faneca, especially for his leadership.

Orlando Pace is 32 years old and the last few years has battled numerous injuries. He is nearing the end of his great career and it doesn't hurt to draft a great young back-up to someday take over for him when he retires.

The problem with drafting a great young backup with the #2 overall pick in the draft is the money you are going to have to pay him. With this being an extremely deep OT draft there will be a quality player in the 2nd to develop at a fraction of the cost. When they are picking in the second I highly doubt there will be a player of Gholston's magnitude. Gholston helps them now and that is what they need with the #2 overall pick in the draft at 25-28 Million. I am in no way saying that the Rams dont need offensive tackle depth but based on need and how deep other positions are in this draft it wouldnt make sense for them to take a luxary item pick. I would understand taking Long if Pace werent coming back but even Alex Barron has proven he can play LT. Draft an impact defender early then jump on the great selection of tackle prospects in the second. Take time to think about guys before we make Jake Long the pick and ruin this mock draft. I think even Dorsey or Ellis would be a better pick for the Rams then Jake Long.
