My 1st ever Mock Draft

Post#1 » by CJ_18 » Sun Mar 9, 2008 1:21 am

So, this is my first EVER mock draft. I am new and (probably) did make mistakes. One of them I think was with McFadden. I just can't find a way to make him go at a reasonable #, to a reasonable team..because someone probably will trade up to get him if he falls as far as I think (not that he's a bad player, i just can't fit him in in-front of some guys) But you Bengals fans DID want Mendenhall, so McFadden shouldn't be THAT bad.

Pick Team Player Position College Height Weight

1 Miami Dolphins Chris Long DE Virginia 6-4 285
The Dolphins need to pick one of the 21 positions on their team that need improvement ...and improve it. Chris Long is a safe bet as he does everything right and can be the face of a franchise, which the Dolphins will be lacking once Jason Taylor retires. Obviously, watch for Tuna to trade out if possible.

2 St. Louis Rams Jake Long T Michigan 6-7 305
Orlando Pace is aging and Stephen Jackson needs someone reliable to run behind.

3 Atlanta Falcons Matt Ryan QB Boston College 6-5 225
Ryan is the squeaky clean guy the Falcons need to improve their image. Plus i don't think he has any pets.

4 Oakland Raiders Glenn Dorsey DT LSU 6-2 300
The Raiders need someone to fill in for retired Warren Sapp. Though these 2 are very opposite, Dorsey is extremely explosive and quick.

5 Kansas City Chiefs Ryan Clady T Boise State 6-5 320
The Chiefs need a new O-line, as their current one is OLD.

6 New York Jets Vernon Gholston DE Ohio State 6-4 260
It's a toss-up between Gholston and McFadden. They at-least have Thomas Jones and Leon Washington at RB and Gholston will fit great in their 3-4.

7 New England Patriots Aqib Talib CB Kansas 6-1 180
Again, McFadden will be considered here. But the Pats need to make up for the loss of Asante Samuel with either Talib or McKelvin. I think they will take Talib because the Pats window for winning is NOW and McKelvin is raw and not as NFL ready.

8 Baltimore Ravens Leodis McKelvin CB Troy 5-11 190
By now somebody would've traded up for McFadden. But Leodis will provide some youth to an aging Ravens Secondary/Defense.

9 Cincinnati Bengals Darren McFadden RB Arkansas 6-1 217
I can see the Bengals trading this pick for more picks to be able to spread out where they must improve on Defense. If they don't, it's either McFadden or Ellis.

10 New Orleans Saints Sedric Ellis DT Southern California 6-1 295
The Saints will POUNCE on Ellis if he falls this far. He would fit great in the middle of their 4-3 and would provide the Saints with a very dominate D-line with Ellis, Will Smith and Charles Grant. (if Grant can come back from the stabbing incident)

11 Buffalo Bills Limas Sweed WR Texas 6-4 220
The Bills need a big, possession WR to compliment Lee Evans and at 6-4, 220, Sweed fits in. Also, Sweed is a good franchise guy in terms of Character..and this bodes well for a team that is going through some tough times.

12 Denver Broncos Derrick Harvey DE Florida 6-4 252
Harvey is very fast and quick and would give Denver the rush off the edge they are lacking. Right here Jeff Otah or Kenny Phillips are a reach, but Harvey makes sense because the one thing he is weak at is the Run stop, and Sam Adams can make up for that.

13 Carolina Panthers Rashard Mendenhall RB Illinois 5-11 225
With Harvey gone, the Panthers could improve their offense with either Mendenhall or maybe Malcolm Kelly. But Mendenhall is needed to replace FA DeShaun Foster.

14 Chicago Bears Keith Rivers OLB USC 6-3 230
Already with Urlacher and Briggs, you could acgue that the Bears improve elsewhere, but, how can you pass up on having those 2 plus Rivers as your LB corp. The bears should stick to their strength and continue to make killer defenses.

15 Detroit Lions Jeff Otah T Pittsburgh 6-6 340
You could make a case for Mike Jenkins here but the Lions need to get guys to block for whoever is throwing to Calvin Johnson.

16 Arizona Cardinals Mike Jenkins CB South Florida 5-11 200
The Cards are pretty solid through-out their roster, but they are lacking depth at CB. Antrel Rolle is moving to Safety so they go back to Southern Florida and pick up Jenkins. (they also picked up Rolle from Miami years back)

17 Minnesota Vikings Phillip Merling DE Clemson 6-5 270
Merling is big and strong and can also on occasion get to the QB. He could turn out to be a sleeper.

18 Houston Texans Chris Williams T Vanderbilt 6-6 315
The Texans have been lacking a franchise T ever since they existed. Williams is agile and strong.

19 Philadelphia Eagles Malcolm Kelly WR Oklahoma 6-4 220
The Eagles missed out on the Randy Moss sweepstakes so they really need to address a WR. McNabb desperately needs one and Kelly is a big target that will catch almost everything.

20 Tampa Bay Buccaneers DeSean Jackson WR California 5-11 165
The Bucs need a big play threat. Although he isn't great in the sense of the Bucs having an accurate passer as oppose to strong arm, Jackson will still bring potential in the future and Garcia ages. and of course he is Devin Hester 2.0

21 Washington Redskins Calais Campbell DE Miami 6-8 290
First of all I would feel guilty if i didn't send my condolences out to Sean Taylor's family. He was truly one of the best, if not the best player IVE ever seen in my short life. The Skins could attempt at replacing him with Kenny Phillips, but its honestly almost impossible to replace Sean. Calais is also from the U and he is quite large at 6'8 290.

22 Dallas Cowboys DR Cromartie CB Tennessee State 6-1 185
The Cowboys need to improve their secondary badly. DRC is extremely gifted athletically and can also return kicks which the cowboys also would love.

23 Pittsburgh Steelers Branden Albert G Virginia 6-7 315
When you lose the best G in football, you shouldn't wander long without a decent replacement. Albert is huge at 6'7 and could be a very dominant G in the NFL.

24 Tennessee Titans Mario Manningham WR Michigan 5-11 180
Vince Young needs someone to get the ball deep. If he could have another game changing playmaker on his team, the Titans could be very dangerous.

25 Seattle Seahawks Jonathan Stewart RB Oregon 5-10 235
Shaun Alexander isn't himself anymore and Stewart could come in and bruise guys like Alexander did in his prime. The thing is, Jonathan also runs a 4.4

26 Jacksonville Jaguars Quentin Groves DE/OLB Auburn 6-4 255
Groves has great athleticism as a pass rusher. He could be a Terrel Suggs type as a hybrid OLB-DE. He is only 255 lbs.

27 San Diego Chargers Kenny Phillips FS Miami 6-1 202
Kenny Phillips is just another one of those Miami safeties. He has been compared to Miami Safetys of the past like Ed Reed, Sean Taylor, and Brandon Meriweather, so it is hard for him to set himself a-part obviously. He is a dynamic S who is fast (for a S), has good range, is strong & smart.

28 Dallas Cowboys Kentwan Balmer DT North Carolina 6-5 300
With this being their 2nd pick in the 1st round, the Cowboys could be looking to grab the best player available. Balmer would fit good in the middle of their 3-4 with his 6-5 size. He can also rush the QB. Early Doucett or James Hardy are also an option.

29 San Francisco 49ers James Hardy WR Indiana 6-6 220
This guy is a HUGE target at 6-6 220. Whoever is the 9ers QB will love having this guy to throw near. Vernon Davis can't do it all.

30 Green Bay Packers Reggie Smith FS/CB Oklahoma 6-0 200
This guy can play either S or CB, which both happen to be needs for GB as Al Harris and Charles Woodson aren't getting any younger.

31 New England Cheaters - N/A -
*** Even though they cheated, we do get to laugh at them for losing in the SB AND not getting this pick ***

32 New York Giants Dan Connor OLB Penn State 6-1 232
Will be a solid LB. He has great intangibles and instincts, which make up for his lack of athletic gifts.

Please, constructive criticism. :D

nice work, some funny comments along w/decent projections... and no one ever makes an accurate mock draft.. in actuality theyre almost always terribly wrong but we all like to look at them and speculate... so no one can really mock ur draft, cuz who the f knows how its gonna turn out theres ALWAYS curves thrown on draft day

Tell you what, if we pick Keith Rivers instead of Chris Williams. I will have to come and murder you.

If you didn't know, the heir apparent to Lance Briggs when his status was iffy was Jamar Williams and the kid is a beast, he can play ever linebacker position and when he filled in for Briggs he netted a good 10+ tackles. On top of that, we drafted Mike Okwo out of Stanford last year and we like him for his athleticism to further bolster the OLB position.

Also, last year we had a total of 8-10 linebackers on the roster. With Briggs back, it's possibly the worse position to fill. Not to mention ALL three of our linebackers(Hunter Hillenmeyer being the third if you didn't know) had a 100 tackle season before. I'm not sure if you can name as many linebacker corps that did especially with our constant injured DTs.

Monkey- Yea Ellis is the obvious pick, as i said though it's hard to find a reasonable place for McFadden and not being able to represent someone will have traded up for him.

- I can see the pats taking Talib. Especially if Gholston is taken by the Jets.

- Yea the Rivers pick was a big mistake.

b_roy- I just remembered you guys got Julius Jones, so it might be to early to get another RB. Maybe when Alexander gets even closer to retirement you can come back and address RB in a year or two. Other than that, you guys could look for another Offensive weapon, maybe a WR or Fred Davis or Dustin Keller at TE. Or you could just add depth to your O-line..that never hurts.

superLuigi- I hear ya.

NoSkyy- Yes i definetly screwed up there. A Jeff Otah or Chris Williams would be a bigger help, or maybe a WR.

hermes- Your offense would definetly be all set (outside of a proven QB) if you take Kelly. But DE is a big need.

Yup, pretty much BPA at this point for the Seahawks now.

I disagree, I think Merling is a good pick for the vikings here. The vikings need LDE help, not RDE help, so harvey makes no sense. But Merling can come in right away and be a run stopper and perhaps get some heat on the QB.

Vikings can wait on WR. After Berrian we roll with Berrian Rice Wade. But could you tell me who our LDE starter and depth is? Jayme Mitchell

Cowboys need a WR or RB more than a tall DT. Most NGs need to be 6-2, 320 or larger. Road blocks and not tall guys. I say pick is either Devin Thomas or Felix Jones. Boys take linemen and BPA after 2nd round.

Looks pretty good overall, especially for a first timer. I know alot of work goes into these, I did my first one about a month ago.

For Oakland, I dont think they'll go DT anymore. A couple of weeks ago I could see it, but since they have so much money in Kelly now at the position I think they'll go in a different direction. I think this is where McFadden will go, Al Davis loves his high profile prospects and especially ones at skill positions with plenty of speed.

I think the Pats will pick up a corner whether or not they find a partner to trade down with. All they have is Hobbs and some depth guys. I think Talib would be a great fit for them, just not at #7. I could see how you could think McKelvin is a raw prospect because he's from a small school, but he could come in and start right away. Jenkins or McKelvin would be better values here for New England and could come in and start right away.

Sweed is a solid pick for Buffalo if they wind up not picking up Bryant Johnson. If they do wind up with him, they would most likely go DE here.

Im not a big fan of Desean to the Bucs anymore. He seems to weak to be a #1 receiver. Id rather go with someone like Hardy or Devin.

I certainly wouldn't put it past Al to take the RB but they just signed Justin Fargas and he played really well for them last year. So yeah, I don't know, I say they should still take Dorsey...I mean that's what I would do but Al Davis may have different thoughts. If the Raiders do go with Dorsey it'll certainly be interesting to see who McFadden drops to..Obviously KC doesn't need him..The Jets have 2 'decent' but unspectacular RBs so I don't know if they take McFadden when they have other needs and Gholston just makes too much sense for them.I could see the Jets taking him just to keep him away from New England and adding more fuel to the rivalry lol. And don't put it past Bill Belichek to shock the world and take McFadden if he's there...
