What's the book on Ahtyba Rubin?

Post#1 » by PhilipNelsonFan » Mon Mar 10, 2008 12:23 am

Watching over the Bengals and their draft-day prep has me curious about Rubin, who's billed as a true NT. I know that he played for a piece of s**t Iowa State football team, but what's his NFL projection and what's going for/against him?

great weight room strength that isnt always applicable on field. athletic but not quick or explosive. has some conditioning problems but has the frame, build and potential to clog up the interior lanes. grades out as a likely starter, but is going to have to start working like he wants to play in the nfl or he could be a bust. has the tools you look for in a solid nt, might not be able to play regular dt because he has literally no pass rush moves or ability to use his physical skills to get to the QB. hes a clogger, upside to be in the level below a wilfork/hampton/williams NT, but thats going to take more work ethic than he has exhibited. reminds me of any big dt that you cant figure out why they dont make more of an impact. potential is there though. wouldnt take him before the 4th to be safe.

Sounds like a perfect pick for cowboys with Pash rushing Jay ratliff and Pass rushing Tank johnson manning the position today. They need a roadblock

His work ethic is better than you think. He came into ISU weighing 285 and has worked his way up to about 320. His combine was mediocre and his speed isn't great but it is improving. He's a project for now with potential to very good. I like him alot and I can see a team like Detroit drafting earlier than expected. With Shawn Rogers gone they have 340 lb hole in the middle.
