Sneak Preview of next Top 103

Post#1 » by Icness » Tue Nov 25, 2008 2:57 am

Airing this out here before I put it up on the main page and get all the emails.
Remember, this is not at all indicative of draft order and reflects soem bias towards some positions being more important than others (IMO). This one features a great deal of input from two collegiate scouts, whose opinions I respect enough to override my own personal feelings on guys like Michael Johnson, Eben Britton, and Greg Hardy.

1. Malcolm Jenkins, CB, Ohio State--could be the best CB from Cornerback U., has everything you could ask for in a shutdown corner
2. Andre Smith, T, Alabama--his improved agility and tenacity elevate him to the top of a deep tackle class
3. Michael Crabtree, WR, Texas Tech--just a redshirt sophomore, but has all the ability and characteristics of Anquan Bolden already
4. Aaron Curry, LB, Wake Forest--not as sexy as the bigger names, but Curry has no visible holes in his game
5. Eugene Monroe, T, Virginia--has looked very strong against NFL-caliber opponents
6. Matthew Stafford, QB, Georgia--junior is the clear cream of the QB crop, a strong-armed leader with loads of big-game experience
7. Chris “Beanie” Wells, RB, Ohio State--his toe injury has stymied his acceleration, but Beanie has shown great vision, speed, and power
8. Vontae Davis, CB, Illinois--impressive athlete knows how to finish his tackles and has great instincts
9. Brian Orakpo, DE, Texas--physical marvel has shown he can do more than rack up sacks
10. Sam Bradford, QB, Oklahoma--redshirt junior has uncanny accuracy and enough zip on his deeper throws
11. Michael Johnson, DE, Georgia Tech--based entirely on potential, not his college production a la Mario Williams
12. Alex Mack, C, California--outstanding athleticism and ability to fire out to the second level make him a special talent
13. Jeremy Maclin, WR/KR, Missouri
14. Knowshon Moreno, RB, Georgia
15. James Laurinaitis, LB, Ohio State
16. Michael Oher, T, Mississippi
17. BJ Raji, NT, Boston College--best of the big beef 3-4 NT prospects in this draft
18. Brandon Pettigrew, TE, Oklahoma State--more NFL-ready than recent top-shelf TEs, better blocker than receiver at this point
19. Jason Smith, T, Baylor
20. Antoine Caldwell, C, Alabama
21. Percy Harvin, ATH, Florida--a faster version of Eric Metcalf, if he accepts being a RB/WR hybrid

22. Rey Maualuga, LB, USC
23. Brandon Spikes, LB, Florida--big-time hitter is quickly learning how to take better angles
24. Alphonso Smith, CB, Wake Forest
25. George Selvie, DE/OLB, South Florida--the next Lamarr Woodley?
26. Sen’Derrick Marks, DT, Auburn
27. Jonathan Luigs, C, Arkansas--the “agile tactician” fits best in a zone blocking scheme
28. Mark Sanchez, QB, USC
29. Russell Okung, T, Oklahoma State
30. Darius Heyward-Bey, WR, Maryland--has a lot of Braylon Edwards in him, for better and for worse
31. Eben Britton, T, Arizona
32. Everette Brown, DE, Florida State
33. C.J. Spiller, RB, Clemson--has pulled far ahead of teammate James Davis thanks to his speed and balance
34. Auston English, DE, Oklahoma
35. Tyson Jackson, DT, LSU--projects better as a 3-4 DE in the NFL
36. Terrance Cody, NT, Alabama
37. Darius Butler, CB, Connecticut
38. Duke Robinson, G, Oklahoma
39. Peria Jerry, DT, Mississippi
40. Jason Phillips, LB, TCU
41. Clint Sintim, LB, Virginia
42. Trevor Canfield, G, Cincinnati
43. Sherrod Martin, CB, Troy
44. Greg Hardy, DE, Mississippi--his flashes of greatness show game-changing potential, but he must learn to play every snap
45. LeSean McCoy, RB, Pittsburgh
46. Max Unger, OL, Oregon--best fit is at G, but can capably play all 5 line spots
47. Jermaine Gresham, TE, Oklahoma
48. DJ Moore, CB, Vanderbilt
49. Cody Brown, DE/OLB, Connecticut
50. Derrick Pegues, DB, Mississippi State--added value as a return man
51. Louis Delmas, S, Western Michigan--physical ballhawk has a lot of Bob Sanders in him
52. Jason Watkins, T, Florida
53. Nate Davis, QB, Ball State
54. Alex Magee, DT, Purdue
55. Brian Cushing, LB, USC--would be significantly higher if not for red flags for injuries
56. Kevin Barnes, CB, Maryland
57. Trevard Lindley, CB, Kentucky--could rocket up the boards if he works out well and shows strong work ethic
58. Lydell Sargent, CB, Penn State
59. Mike Mickens, CB, Cincinnati--rediscovering the playmaking ability and making better decisions in coverage
60. Larry English, DE/OLB, Northern Illinois
61. Clay Matthews, OLB, USC--moving up quickly, and his dad belongs in the HOF
62. Brandon Tate, WR, North Carolina
63. William Moore, S, Missouri
64. Londen Fryar, CB, Western Michigan
65. Marcus Freeman, LB, Ohio State
66. Patrick Turner, WR, USC--does more than getting by on natural talent, an oddity for USC wideouts of late.
67. Mohammed Massaquoi, WR, Georgia
68. Pannel Egboh, DE, Stanford
69. Travis Beckum, TE, Wisconsin
70. Evander “Ziggy” Hood, DT, Missouri
71. Eric Wood, C, Louisville--reminds me a great deal of Hank Fraley
72. Sean Weatherspoon, LB, Missouri
73. Jahi Word-Daniels, CB, Boston College
74. Victor “Macho” Harris, CB, Virginia Tech
75. Rashad Johnson, S, Alabama
76. Jamon Meredith, T, South Carolina
77. Tyrone McKenzie, OLB, South Florida
78. Chase Coffman, TE, Missouri--has similar skills to Dallas Clark
79. Derrick Williams, WR, Penn State
80. Jonathan Casillas, LB, Wisconsin
81. Louis Murphy, WR, Florida
82. Kevin Ellison, S, USC--if teammate Mays had ¼ of Ellison’s savvy, Mays would be the #1 overall pick
83. Darry Beckwith, LB, LSU
84. Shonn Greene, RB, Iowa--late to the scene, but that also means coveted fresh legs
85. C.J. Davis, G, Pittsburgh
86. Tom Brandstater, QB, Fresno State
87. Marko Mitchell, WR, Nevada--deceptive speed for a big wideout, good blocker
88. Dannell Ellerbe, LB, Georgia
89. Antonio Coleman, DE, Auburn
90. Mark Herzlich, LB, Boston College
91. Ndamukong Suh, DT, Nebraska--quickly maturing into a better prospect, should he declare
92. Taylor Mays, S, USC
93. Joe Burnett, CB, Central Florida
94. Donald Brown, RB, Connecticut
95. Ciron Black, T, LSU--needs to go back to school for another year
96. Terrance Taylor, DT, Michigan
97. Deangelo Smith, DB, Cincinnati--probably best as a nickel back in the NFL
98. William Beatty, T, Connecticut
99. Eric Moncur, DE, Miami FL
100. Alex Boone, T, Ohio State--will play RT in the NFL and has the snarl to make it
101. Courtney Greene, S, Rutgers
102. Hakeem Nicks, WR, North Carolina
103. Matt Shaughnessy, DE, Wisconsin

Sorry about the funky way that posted; I pasted it from Word and that's the only way it would keep the numbering

I've got it on very good authority that Maybin will be back if Paterno is back. That's the story now anyways; these things are pretty fluid for the next couple of months. On the PSU front, you're going to see Maurice Evans on a lot of lists but he's red-flagged for off-field issues by at least a couple of teams I know of. Talent-wise he belongs in the middle of this list but staying out of trouble is a talent too, one that he doesn't possess.

Graham is expected to return to school, though I've heard he's sniffing about the NFL. Williams just doesn't impress me much, sort of a generic starting BCS conference CB with good physical attributes. I'd strongly advise him to go back to school.

LeSean McCoy is officially headed back to Pittsburgh, so drop him and I'll add someone. Maybe Phil Loadholt, IDK.

This draft is STACKED from like 20-60 area. It's like the top 40 guys or so could almost all be flopped around.

I would LOVE to trade down and grab a stud linemen and William Moore that low if I'm the Saints, though Aaron Curry is enticing.

I think Maybin would be wise to return to school but the kid is up for the Bednarik award and has been one of the most dominant defensive linemen in college football. Even with the weight issue I think he's got enough natural ability and upside to warrant a 2nd round pick, possibly a first if he works out well.

As for Brandon Williams, I meant this guy. Big, athletic, leading the Big 12 in sacks. Still only 20 years old.

Just a few things, Jahi Word-Daniels plays for GT and not BC. Also Mark Herzlich at 90 seems a bit low, he seems to do everything very good. He is good at rushing the passer though he hasnt done it much this year, very good in coverage, ive even seen him do good on WR's a few times, great at getting into the backfield and blowing up plays and he just has that nastiness. He needs to bulk up some but at 6'4 he has the potential to fill out somemore and get to 250 or so. He said he is staying for his senior year but if he were to enter i think he could be a late 1st-mid 2nd round pick, he seems like a perfect 3-4 OLB.

Now posted on the main page with some minor revisions. I happened to watch a couple of ACC games and my opinion of a couple of players changed slightly.

Mark Sanchez sucks. Taylor Mays does not. They should switch spots on your list.

Nah, Icness got that right.

What is it about Ndamukong Suh? I literally had not heard about him until he returned that INT for a TD, and now all of a sudden he's got a third-round projection?

And no Patrick Chung? (Performance-wise, I see it, but he's still great in run support.)

You have clearly never seen any of those three play. Michael Johnson is a 6-7 speed demon. Remember Calais Campbell last year? Give him better moves and better motivation and you have Michael Johnson. Taylor Mays has been covered ad nauseum on this board already.
