Mock Draft 5.0

Friendly reminder that this does not necessarily represent the choices I would make in the given situations. This is sill almost completely guesswork at this point as the teams don't have finalized draft boards yet. I'll know a lot more after Senior Bowl week.

My take on how recent changes impact the draft:
--Mike Holmgren will give Brady Quinn a full year as the unquestioned #1 in Cleveland and they will bolster the back end of the defense first, I'd bet good $$ on it.
--The new leadership in Washington is going to do one of two things--draft a franchise QB in the 1st, or go out and acquire one (Trent Edwards? Derek Anderson? Chad Pennington?) and use the 1st rounder on the OL. Your guess is as good as mine right now.
--Look for the Giants to move some names on defense as part of an overhaul. I would strongly suspect their entire draft goes defense except for maybe a mid-round OL.

One overriding trend I've picked up from a lot of different scouts and personnel people this year is that height in WRs is being vastly overrated by lay people. It's all about short-area quickness and getting separation, a la Desean Jackson, Donnie Avery, Wes Welker, Percy Harvin, etc. This has a big-time negative impact on guys like Demaryius Thomas, Damian Williams, Dezmon Briscoe, even LaFell somewhat.

Jeff,

i don't know about the vikes going after a tight end (even though i like moeaki- even though he is injury prone) because they have shiancoe, unless they want to replace dugan and kleinsasser?

i think the vikings need to look at upgrading the secondary, but do you think that they also will look for a pat williams replacement? or will they stick with jimmy kennedy for the short term

First off, I love the jahvid best pick. So Kudos for that.

I hate Tebow though, you could be right who knows what BB is gonna think come draft time. I just don't see him panning out as a qb, rb, wr, te, special teamer, bench player, towel boy in the nfl. He's the Adam Morrison of football.

Well atleast I can say I'm happy the drafts never work out the way you have it for the Pats.

As far as the Skins go, it doesn't matter who's at QB because the line sucks. You could have Montana back there and he'd put up horrible numbers.
Bickerstaff: who's up for kickball?!!
Ed Wood: Only if it's the no-pants variety.

Just want to say I'm glad you are already starting with the multiple round mocks since, as a Bears fan, I don't have anything to look forward to in the first two rounds. I've already been scouring the possible later round players and really don't even care who the top picks are.

Do you think the Bills would look at a Rolando McClain or an OT if they can't get a proven QB through a trade?

The Pats are sort of a running joke amongst people like me. Not a bad joke, but it's just that trying to predict what they do this far out is like trying to predict who is going to be president in 2020.

My best guess on NE, and it's strictly a guess:
They will either find a top-10 target they want and aggressively move up by packaging some of their plethora of picks, or they trade down from every spot they're in now and take guys that most pundits like myself have rated at least one round later.

...which means this will be the year they keep all their picks and take J.P. Paul in the 1st and Ryan Matthews, Eric Norwood, and Jeremy Williams with their second rounders 8-)

Haha, no I agree with you. Nobody can ever say they know what New England is going to do in the draft. Sorry just had to bust your chops a bit.

It's all good. I'm not touchy like that. I can only know what I know and I try to never present myself as knowing what I don't. If I do y'all are welcome to call me on it.

If Brian Price or Terrence Cody are available in the second round, I think the Lions have no choice but to take them. Cody is a clone to Shaun Rodgers and that is someone that Detroit TRULY misses.

*Did Greg Jones say he's coming out?
*Where is Patrick Robinson?
*Corey Wooton in the first? Really? I didn't expect him to go out 'til the 3rd or 4th.

6.0 is in the works with the official underclassmen date being today. Greg Jones shocked me by going back to MSU and all the UNC guys stayed in school too.

Re: Robinson--he's a guy that impresses the casual viewer a lot more than scouts. Extrememly inconsistent and he's not the greatest teammate or worker. He'll be in the next one but I think he's one who slides quite a bit.

I've been wanting to do a mock for quite a while but don't really wanna do one by myself cuz I'd most likely be bias so I have been trying to find someone to do one with me since there will be two opinions going in. If you're interested Icness, I'd like to do one with you. It would lead to a great conversation, imo. lol

Having Spiller go Top 5 kind of surprised me. But I guess can see him having a Percy Harvin type impact, so he could go that high.

Not sure about the Vikings taking a TE either. I think they have bigger needs, S, DT, CB, OG/C. I like their 1st round pick but could also see them taking Brian Price, Terrence Cody, or even Patrick Robinson. But with what you said about Robinson and the casual viewer probably applies to me. I saw him chase down Devine in their bowl game and was pretty impressed. I think the Vikes D could use some speed.

And something else I see, you have Detroit taking a G in the second round with Brian Bulaga still on the board. I don't see Detroit passing up that kind of OT for a G tbh.
