I wonder if the standard will become 14 forcing the PAC-12 to try and get Kansas and Oklahoma. There are no schools west of the Rockies that appeal to them athletically or institutionally.

I know you're thinking of Kansas in terms of basketball, but I highly doubt the Pac 12 would want a football program that terrible in their conference (especially since they already house Colorado). Even though it didn't happen last year, it would make sense for Texas to try and revisit the option of moving to the Pac 12; it'll just be interesting to see who follows or who is reached out to.

I think the Big East will be completely dissolved by 2016. I don't see how any school, regardless of AQ status, who would want to play in a conference that spans four time zones and doesn't have a single top tier program.

The conference landscape shifting is going to be a bit mellowed by the implementation of the playoff system, but there's still too much money to be had.

Boise returns to the MWC, I would guess SDS will as well.

BE remains a mess.....
Basketball is driven by three principles:

1) Movement 2) Application of fundamentals 3) Predictability

San Diego St. probably will go back to the Mountain West since they were the school that helped Boise make the move to the Big West for everything but football.

Here is what I think should happen:
-WVU moves to the ACC, replacing Maryland
-Houston, SMU, and Rice join the Big 12, giving it 12 teams again
-The remaining Big East and Conference USA teams join together and form a new conference
-The Mountain West Conference expands to 12 all-sports teams by adding New Mexico State, with provisions to add Sacramento State and Portland State when they move up from FCS to FBS
-The WAC disbands and the few remaining teams return to smaller fringe FBS conferences

(Basketball realignment)
-The 7 Catholic former Big East schools form a new basketball conference, with Creighton and add Dayton, Duquesne, Fordham, La Salle, St. Bonaventure, St. Joe's, St. Louis, and Xavier from the Atlantic 10 Conference
-Seattle University joins the West Coast Conference from the WAC

The MWC would rather poach the Con USA of UTEP and then wait for Montana to move up. Montana was smart not to go to the WAC, they should go to the MWC. The Big East will live on in Texas. The auto-bid is still something they hold for basketball. The WAC is already becoming a play in game basketball league dropping football and adding Utah Valley and Seattle and CS Bakersfield.

I think it's going to be a long time before we see Montana move up. I believe when they explored the option of moving up, they realized that the fee they would have to pay to join an FBS conference was 1/4 of its total annual athletics budget. When you consider that, along with facility upgrades and Title IX stuff, it doesn't look likely that they'll move up at all.
