OT: I met the old conditioning trainer for the A's...

Post#1 » by throwbackewing33 » Thu Jun 21, 2007 4:45 am

Im at sales training for my job and in my class is the old strength and conditioning coach for the A's. SHE was the 1st female head trainer in the MLB which is pretty impressive. Anyway I was talking to her about the yankees firing of Marty Miller for all the injuries and how his philosophy de-emphazied running. She said it was a real old school approach that most people dont agree with. She gave me a real technical reason why this could lead to all the hamstring injuries. But it was also cool because she was telling me that se came real close to being the Yankees conditioning coach, the only problem was that the Boss vetoed the idea of a female trainer...Instead MARTY MILLER was hired!!! Maybe life would be different with the correct training from the beginning...It was a really interesting conversation because she was telling me about all the relationships she built working in baseball. She has gone to bars with Derek Jeter, when her luggage got lost during working in college baseball, Mark Prior bought her some stuff to get her by. She also told me how Barry Zito is a really "sensitive" guy who loves to go to weddings. It was a very interesting conversation.

Im an orthopedic sales rep. I sell bone stimulators and sports bracing. Its an exciting and challenging job, and I cant wait to get out in the field. Yea Im currently going through extensive training and there are a lot of interesting people.

When she told me about the weddings it was a little more than that, but thats not even a big deal. I just thought it would be cool to let you guys know about the experience.
