I'm almost certain that if your Buckeyes were ranked 3rd or 4th, you would argue otherwise. I think most agree that an 8 team playoff makes the most sense.

I know I wouldn't. Wisconsin hasn't beaten a really strong B10 opponent yet. They lost to Mich and OSU, and never played PSU. They have not beaten a single top 3 B10 team. OSU lost one B10 game all season, Wisc lost two B10 games, why do they deserve to be in the B10 title game? Especially when OSU beat Wisc at Wisc. It has been proven that Wisc couldn't even beat the 2nd and 3rd teams in the East (for B10 purposes), why should they get a chance to try and beat the 1st place B10 team? Divisions are dumb. I would say that if OSU was 12-0 and perfect in the B10.

I read it wrong. I thought he meant do away with the 4 team playoff & essentially go back to having the #1 & 2 ranked teams play each other. Essentially No playoff. I misinterpreted.

Haha, I just read the rest of the posts in this thread, and had agreed and And1'd Arda's comment, then saw that you misunderstood it, but it does seem like your second sentence of "I think most agree that an 8 team playoff makes the most sense" would have also allowed others to see that you misunderstood it.

It's the same way in the SEC for the last 5 years or so at least...Bama, LSU, A&M, Auburn and then both Mississippi schools were really tough while the other division wasn't so tough.

Top 8 according to the computers...

Massey

  1. Alabama
  2. Washington
  3. Ohio St
  4. USC
  5. Penn St
  6. Michigan
  7. Clemson
  8. Oklahoma

Sagarin

  1. Alabama
  2. Ohio St
  3. Michigan
  4. Washington
  5. Clemson
  6. Penn St
  7. Wisconsin
  8. USC

FPI

  1. Alabama
  2. Ohio St
  3. Michigan
  4. Washington
  5. Clemson
  6. Louisville
  7. LSU
  8. Oklahoma

Team Efficiencies

  1. Alabama
  2. Washington
  3. Michigan
  4. Ohio St
  5. Clemson
  6. USC
  7. Louisville
  8. Oklahoma

Notes:
  • In all cases, Alabama, Ohio St, and Washington are top 4.
  • Washington always lands in front of both Clemson and Penn St.
  • Teams like Michigan and USC do better here than they will with the committee...which is probably ok. The computers are interested in how *good* the teams are, which is not the same as what they've done or earned. For example, all these computer programs have Michigan as a better team than Clemson, but Clemson has more wins, less losses, a conference championship, and some quality wins, so I think it's fair if Clemson lands a playoff spot over Michigan.

This will be an interesting game. Defensive battle for sure. Of course Alabama is going to be the favorite across the board, but I think that this game will come down to turnovers and a few key big plays, so with a big day, Washington's defense could give them a chance.

washington would've been easier but i ll take clemson as well, they havent impressed this year.

would've loved to see michigan take on alabama and would've been a much closer matchup but oh well, i am not gonna shed a tear for those cork soakers up north.

Don't really get why committee moves Clemson up to 2 after an unimpressive win vs VaTech, but leaves Washington at 4 with a blowout over a better team CU. Would be interesting to hear the justification in that one. It's inconsequential, but yet still interesting.

To be fair, RIP to everyone not named Alabama in advance. Washington just has to play them first, but it's just a matter of time for the winner of Clemson and OSU.

I would've loved to have been #3 & played you guys or Clemson, but honestly I'm just happy with where the program is at now. It had been a rough decade plus. Went winless under Tyrone Willingham. Chris Petersen has been a godsend. We are finally back!!!

Hey ya never know though. Ohio State was in your exact same shoes (well almost) in 2014, and yet shocked the world. Bama is going to bring a physical brand of football Washington probably isn't really used to. It's going to be a battle in the trenches. Although I admit I don't see good fortune for Washington in their game, ya never know. Goodluck!

I'll be rooting for you tbh, and we had to play Rutgers too, they're somehow a Big 10 team lol.

Even so, I am so proud of Ohio State this year. OSU lost 8 starters on offense and 8 starters on defense. A record 12 players taken in the first 4 rounds of the NFL draft. 43 true or RS freshman on the team. Then to do what they've done, and win at OU, at Wisc, vs Mich... make the playoffs as #3, it's astounding. This wasn't even supposed to be a great year for OSU, and yet here they are. So I don't have any expectations. If we play the way we are capable, we could maybe just win this thing. Regardless of if we do or don't, this year is just a warmup, next year OSU should be a real force to be reckoned with.
