USC getting whacked HARD

It's going to come out tomorrow but here's what USC is going to get:
2-year postseason ban
loss of 8 scholarships in 2011 and 5 in 2012
admit to lack of institutional control over the football program
but the biggie is...forfeiture of all wins during the entire Reggie Bush era. That includes their national title and will probably cost Bush his Heisman.

IMO they got lucky that Pete Carroll left or else it would have been more severe.

I wonder if players who wish to transfer will be allowed to go to any of the new 6.

wow, the NCAA clearly has a vendetta against the program.

not worried about the wins being taken away, there is no doubt about killing all competition.

but the loss of scholarships is the biggest hit and the biggest joke. this is an educational opportunity taken away from kids based on a witch-hunt that the ncaa has had against this program. 6 YEARS? that is a joke. bowl money is also a big loss. past losses isnt a concern for the program, its the money now and money in the future that hurts a program.

and still, up to this point . . . no facts nor information of proof have been given. now who got the raw end of the deal here? baseless accusations that took years to investigate, and still no facts, yet kids who were in middle school are punished. great idea!

that is a vendetta against a great institution such as USC.

Obviously Carroll left because he knew how bad he let things get. The University of Spoiled Children got what's coming to them. Vendetta? Sure, a vendetta against rotten cheaters.

Does this mean that Vince Young will inherit the Heisman, or will the 05 award be taken out of the books altogether?

The lack of institutional control is what got them.

As for proof, geez there was a lot of proof about Bush's actions and benefits received. Tapes, records of transactions, a deal with an agent. True, the investigation took far too long...but let's face it, either Carroll and his coaches didn't know the whole time (which, given Bush's stature and importance to the team....is IMPOSSIBLE to believe), or they looked the other way.

USC turned an institutional blind eye throughout this, and got the deserved penalty.

This time, the NCAA got it right.

There are NO-TIE-INs to the UNIVERSITY. period. end of story. Past punishments were by boosters, internal sources or other internal entities within a university, then the punishment followed suit.

But there is ZERO in this case. curious?? why??

This is simply an attempt to send a message nationwide to all programs. to make USC an example.

The NCAA is helpless. Useless. Have no power over agents who ENCIRCLE programs across the nation. That is a fact! Therein lies the problem that theyve been biting and waiting for a chance to address and put forth a backlash against. BUT COULDNT . . . until now.

The agents that camp around Universities and vying for top representation for these athletes is BIG MONEY. But the NCAA was helpless in attacking this problem. So they used USC to get their point across to programs from coast to coast. Thats truly sad.

If the NCAA wants to fix the problem, then they needed to directly speak on the problem of agents and the NFL for which these players are ALL trying to head to. There is no serious relationship or link between the league and the NCAA. No serious way in addressing this "agent" problem. And without serious proof or tie-in to an institution, they decided to have a show of power and hopefully rid itself of the guilt from its own inability.

Seems like you've lost hope in the NCAA. Guess you can focus on the pros now and never turn an eye to the NCAA again.

hmmm, are we actually going to have a discussion "period" in this thread, or is this anally driven commentary time.

Anyhow, as you can see, the SHOW brings discussion and information to the topic, while your 1 or 2 line responses seem to be driven only by the HATERade drinking.

As you and others can read above, there is an absolute assault on reasoning and facts here by the NCAA. without any actual facts, proof to back up their claims, this is a shot in the dark to send a message nationwide, to all programs . . . however, as had been stated so eloquently above in my comments, it is the AGENT/NFL relationship that the NCAA needs to be addressing and working together with.

c'mon man, they've got records of transfers to Bush, they've got phone records of illegal recruiting in both hoops and football, they've got testimony from at least 8 different people that Bush willingly took money and cars and his family got benefits, including tens of thousands in cash. Two reputable NFL agents are included in that group.

This is very similar to what happened to Kentucky hoops back in the Chris Mills fiasco. It took a few years but they obviously recovered. What hurts USC more is that it wasn't just football but also hoops and tennis, which shows a clear lack of institutional control over the AD. The NCAA has to come down hard on that or else they have no purpose.

Beat me to it.

Some are in denial.
