so meyer is going to osu, $40 million for 7 years or something like that

the buckeyes not being a super team was nice for one year- although the big team seemed to stink this year without a real top team

I would put good money on Urban not making it through half of that contract.

I've long had a contempt for Urban Meyer, mainly because of his ability to remain smug in every situation. He is the type of coach who does very little and takes credit for a whole lot.

I really hope you are wrong, but I pretty much feel the same way.

This whole "dream job" just seems shallow

He was a Buckeye so I buy that is was his dream job. What bothers me is he steps away because he was worried about his health and wanted to be with his family. Then he comes back quickly. Then he does it again, but he takes a job that requires even more travel as a TV analyst. Now he moves to Columbus. All that within a little over 2 years. I ripped him for the flip flopping the first time and I'm going to rip him again this week.

In 2008 while he was still coaching Florida, he told a Florida radio station "Notre Dame is still my dream job. That hasn't changed."

The second paragraph of his Wikipedia page: "Meyer is a devout Roman Catholic and on several occasions has referred to the head coaching position at Notre Dame as his 'dream job'..."

Yeah, he was born in Ohio. But he's a Cincy alum and grew up cheering for the Irish.

He'll probably continue to be an excellent coach. I wish we had him instead of Brian Kelly. But his words can't be trusted. He probably burns more relationships than anyone outside of Saban. ND officials will never forgive him for going back on his verbal commitment to coach in 2005, making the administrators look like idiots in the process. He was in South Bend telling every alum and waiter in town that he was coming. Two days later, he's introduced at Florida. Then he keeps insisting it's still his dream job.

I think Brian Kelly is a better Xs/Os coach than Meyer but he's not a great recruiter for the kind of kids ND usually attracts. I love Brian Kelly, got to know him well during his time at Grand Valley where he was getting kids to decommit from Michigan and Purdue to attend a D-II school in a flood-prone cornfield outside Grand Rapids.

The impression I got from back during the time you brought up was that Meyer was leveraging Notre Dame to get more out of Florida. I didn't know he was that infatuated with the Irish.

Urban Meyer is the best coach in college football so I am stoked. Jim Tressell getting canned was a good thing.

As for ND - he would have gone there instead of Florida if they would have gone laxer on the academic requirments for athletes, but they didn't so he chose Florida instead. Nothings changed, hes at his best possible job right now.

I am stumped at D'Shawbs comment. Urban Meyer has done very little? Taking BG to being a ranked team? Winning a BCS bowl at Utah? Winning 2 national championships at Florida in 5 years? Averaging over 10 wins a season for 10 years? Being the most successful head coach ever at your 3 previous schools?

Watch OSU win 3 national championships over his contract and the big 10 every year except maybe next season. Hes a way better coach and recruiter than Tressel ever was. I'm beyond pumped.
