The Most Wonderful Time of the Year: Bowl Season 2011-12

Post#1 » by Da Schwab » Mon Dec 5, 2011 1:37 am

Teams will begin bowling on the 17th with Temple squaring off against Wyoming in the New Orleans Bowl.

But, the big card will be the dreaded rematch of Bama and LSU on January 9th, which will also be in New Orleans.

I'll put the full schedule up once I'm done typing this paper.

I love the bowls.

And I love the bowl pools too

The Sugar Bowl is laughable. VT's reward for a loss against Clemson is a BCS game?

Arkansas, Kansas State, and my Gamecocks got the shaft.

Man, you guys will swallow anything. The bowl system is the worst postseason ever. No rationality, no tradition, just a highly subjective two-team championship field with a bazillion indistinguishable Beef-O-Brady type bowls strung out in front of it. How is the NCAA basketball tournament not infinitely better than that? How are the NFL playoffs, the MLB playoffs, or the NBA playoffs not infinitely better?

It's a shame the bowl system is so stupid, because otherwise college football is a blast.

As I actually sit here and look at all the bowls I only have one real problem...

Michigan St. beat Wisconsin once, loses a tight game in the Big Ten Championship in the final minutes and beats Michigan, but Michigan gets a BCS bowl? Was the win over Nebraska really worth that much for Big Blue?

Serious fan is serious.

Lighten up, buddy. Sure, most of these bowls are pointless, but it gives a lot of kids a shot at making a big impact on TV in front of millions. Just sit there and enjoy the competition.

Get off my lawn.

Don't mind me, you go ahead and enjoy the bowls. I'll probably at least watch Missouri play in whatever-the-hell bowl they are in this year.

I'm treating the LSU/Bama rematch as Voldemort in the early Harry Potter books, the thing which cannot be mentioned. I will not watch and I will not pay it any attention.

The BCS at-large berths are all about ticket sales and little to do with who is most deserving. Michigan sells out every bowl no matter where it is, and their fans always spend beau cop dolares. I would have preferred K-State against TCU, but IMO Michigan/VT is probably the most exciting BCS matchup.

Happy that the MAC got so many berths. Not sure any will win though. My Bobcats have the best chance.

Cotton Bowl looks like the best of the non-BCS matchups. Arkansas State/NIU should be a good game too even though nobody gives a crap.

Yea, I know SC and ARK weren't eligible. Still unfortunate that the best team the Sugar Bowl could find is Virginia Tech. Laughable.

I always like watching the Sun Belt teams. It'll be interesting to see Arkansas State play without Hugh Freeze, who is going back to Mississippi.

They need to set up parameters where teams like Michigan are inelligible for BCS bowls when the team ahead of them in their side of the division doesn't make one.

MSU was a far better team this season, any rational fan would tell you so. It makes no sense that a they qualify for the B10CG because they are better than UM but then also get punished for it.

If this were a tournament and not, uh, what we've got, USC would be the #12 seed that comes out and blows away the 5 seed and then thumps the 4 seed in the 2nd round. Obviously the numbers aren't right there but you get the picture...

Proud of Lane Kiffin for doing a solid coaching job in a tough circumstance and not making a spectacle of himself.

I am ecstatic! First bowl win in Ohio University history, on a last minute TD after trailing since the second play. I will be celebrating with potato products, most notably vodka.

Congrats to the Bobcats and Frank Solich. Fun game to watch.
