I am tempted to say Manti Te'o should get it this year since nobody has really stepped up on offense to really differentiate themselves as the clear front runner, what do you guys think?

If I had a vote, it would look like this:

1. Collin Klein
2. Manti Te'o
3. AJ McCarron
4. Kenjon Barner
5. Braxton Miller

If K-State loses a game and Klein throws 2-3 picks, then I really think Te'o can snag it if Notre Dame runs the table. But, that's a big IF.

What is clear up to now is that there is no clear front-runner.

Well, Kenjon Barner just cemented himself as a legitimate contender for the award. 300+ rushing yards and 5 TD's against USC.

I like Barner and watched most of this game. Oregon is so fun to watch and again I love their uniforms, no football team college or pro has better gear than them. It's so sad that no other football operation is up to their speed in simple equipment matters. Every single college football team and pro team is LOSING to them right now in that element. What a shame.

My current ballot would look like this:
1. Klein
2. Barner
3. Teo
4. Braxton Miller
5. McCarron

The best player in college football is Chance Warmack, but no way a guard wins. Damontre Moore might be second-best but a DE isn't going to win either. I'd probably put Warmack on my ballot just to get him some recognition.

I do vote on the Bednarik Award, and it is Manti Teo's to lose.

I'm a member of the FWAA, which votes for the Thorpe, Rimington, and Bednarik Awards. The Heisman is totally different, run by a group of suits in New York and former winners. I had to be a member in good standing (read: pay dues on time) for three years to get a counting vote.

Barner is a 2nd/3rd rounder, probably 2nd when he runs 4.36 at a pro day or in Indy. Decent chance he'll be the first RB taken, though Giovani Bernard will have something to say about that. Right now I see no top 40 RBs but a decent glut of them in the 50-100 range. Depends on who declares.

Ehh he's a freshman and I'd hate to see a freshman get it, sure he's having a good season but he hasn't really statistically set him self apart from the other QBs with any dynamite stats. His win/loss record is not impressive and there's still a couple QBs that are undefeated, plus a very exciting RB and a LB that I think is also more deserving. I don't think Manziel belongs in the conversation at all. Maybe as a dark horse to sneak into the top 5, but not as ANY consideration to be the winner. The only thing that gives him credibility is that the announcers of this last game think that he should be in consideration, and they aren't thinking it through very well in my opinion.

I really hate the accepted fact that freshman can't win a Heisman. This kid is one of the most dynamic players in the nation and he just torched the Alabama defense. If A&M just destroys Sam Houston St. and Mizzou like they should, then this kid should get an invite to NYC for the ceremony. With today's performance, I think he might thrust himself into the top 5 of a lot of people's ballot, maybe even top 3.

Collin Klein was incredibly uninspiring today, but he's still probably going to be #1 until K-State loses.

After today, even with Oregon just kicking off, my top five would be:

1. Collin Klein
2. Manti Te'o
3. Braxton Miller
4. Kenjon Barner
5. Johnny Manziel

Well I don't think that's truly the case, but it's still less information to understand the player, and to give a freshman an award like that in a situation like this where Manziel doesn't have an impressive win/loss record in hif first and only year and not with very impressive stats that dominate the others clearly disqualifies him in this case. But a guy like Te'o has had a great career and it would be more fitting for a guy like that then a guy who is debatable to make even the Top 5.

So I have no issue with a freshman winning, but he has to make a case, and Manziel hasn't come remotely close, he has no chance, nor should he, based on his play and accomplishments.

My top 3 would probably be:

Te'o / Barner
Klein - too many QB's with similarly competitive stats, 1 of which is also undefeated (OSU)

And I don't see anybody else in the mix at all. Not too concerned about who would come in places beyond that.

Braxton Miller has over 400 more rushing yards than Collin Klein, you're saying he has no merits that make him a candidate?

No I'm saying that Miller and Manziel and Klein are all going to compete against each other that they take away from each other, which is why I see nobody that is special amongst those 3 QBs as a standout, that's why my top 2 are Te'o and Barner.

Klein is already a stretch to count and I just picked him as my favorite to fill out the top 3, but I'm only highly considering 2 people right now.

But, if these are the three best QBs in the nation, then I don't see why they all don't deserve some recognition?

And, it looks as if Kenjon Barner may have just broken a hand/finger. If he's done, then he's out of the discussion.

They do, we are recognizing them for a discussion on who should be the last guy for that 3rd spot. I picked Klein because he has a perfect record, although I'm not studying the QBs that intently since I'm not a voter. I don't see any of them as a standout so I think none of them should get "winner potential" consideration at all. I only like Te'o and Barner right now. I'm not a big fan of trying to evaluate who is the best loser of all the losers really, it's kind of boring.

And Barner's injury doesn't count as this is the first I'm hearing of it before the other posts. That just leaves Te'o then as the single worthy winner with not much competition, but only assuming Barner is indeed done like you say.

Barner is a longshot even without the injury considering he is not even the most valuable/best player on his team, you can even argue for him to be 3rd best.Te'o is intriguing but don't see him winning it or even finishing in top 3 unless he has handful more interceptions which his position does not give him a chance.

that leaves Klein, Miller and Manziel and maybe Mariota. it is Klein's to lose but if he has a bad game and k-state loses, then it gets interesting. Manziel won't win but he should get an invite to nyc.
