this is another game of many i've seen that really makes SOS seem like a bogus stat. for one thing you can find a bunch of different numbers from a bunch of different sources. and i just heard the commentator say Lousville is 121st in strength of schedule and florida is 1st? 121 to 1st, and it's 17-3 lousville as i type this. that's why i don't like the stat.
strength of schedule isn't truly tangible unless every team plays each other.

Florida got smashed because their defense obviously didn't want to be there and their offense is not good enough to win games. motivation is the biggest factor in bowl games, that's why you see this many touchdown+ underdogs winning outright. you can throw away just about any stat out of window during bowl season(except for the title game where motivation is not an issue)

i'm pretty sure stuff like scoring defense and rushing yards stayed a lot more intact than SOS. there's a lot more authentic stats out there, they don't all just suck.
and florida was thrilled to be there. they were expected to be an 8-4 team this season.

LOL I love SEC fans. When they win, best conference ever. When they lose they didn't really want to be there.

scoring defense? florida was ranked 3rd in the nation and allowed 26 points to one of the worst offensive bowl teams.
rushing yards? second best rushing team in sec was held to 119 yards and its top rusher only had 49 yards.
those stats suck as much as sos when it comes to this game.
florida was a title contender up until the Georgia game and even when it was obvious they would be in sugar bowl, they expected oklahoma and had to settle for a big east team. even their fans did not show up despite the fact game was in their backyard.

oregon cared about the fiesta bowl. that's how you're supposed to respond to being put in a game like this when you are a top ranked team.
