General 2013 NCAA Football Season Thread

Post#1 » by Da Schwab » Sat Aug 3, 2013 12:49 am

I guess since this board doesn't get much traffic, I may as well just make one giant thread for all the talk we want to have, just so threads don't float all over the place.

Anyway, the Preseason Coaches Poll came out yesterday and we all knew who #1 would be...

1 Alabama (58) 0-0 1545
2 Ohio State (3) 0-0 1427
3 Oregon 0-0 1397
4 Stanford 0-0 1262
5 Georgia 0-0 1250
6 Texas A&M (1) 0-0 1215
7 South Carolina 0-0 1136
8 Clemson 0-0 1047
9 Louisville 0-0 1010
10 Florida 0-0 930
11 Notre Dame 0-0 872
12 Florida State 0-0 844
13 LSU 0-0 797
14 Oklahoma State 0-0 726
15 Texas 0-0 622
16 Oklahoma 0-0 620
17 Michigan 0-0 589
18 Nebraska 0-0 426
19 Boise State 0-0 420
20 TCU 0-0 400
21 UCLA 0-0 202
22 Northwestern 0-0 186
23 Wisconsin 0-0 172
24 USC 0-0 165
25 Oregon State 0-0 135
Others receiving votes: Kansas State 113, Miami (FL) 101, Michigan State 89, Baylor 80, Virginia Tech 65, Fresno State 62, Arizona State 51, Ole Miss 32, Vanderbilt 29, Utah State 23, Brigham Young 20, North Carolina 19, Northern Illinois 19, Tulsa 9, San Jose State 8, Ohio 8, Arizona 5, Cincinnati 3, East Carolina 3, Mississippi State 3, Kent State 3, Washington 3, UCF 2, Tennessee 1, Toledo 1, Rutgers 1, Arkansas 1, Arkansas State 1

No real big surprises for a preseason rankings, Bama gets the top spot and a majority of the first place votes. Ohio State gets three pity votes from those that think they would've stood a chance against any of the top tier teams in the SEC last year.

But then, Texas A&M snags a first place vote. I don't understand that. I know they lost two pretty close games last season AND beat Bama, but I have this inkling that they'll be this season's version of the 2011 Arkansas team that got a lot of hype and then bombed; maybe not as drastically as that team, but nowhere near expectation.

Alright, I guess we can try to keep game/injury/award banter/etc. to this thread if that appeases everyone. If not... hell, I don't care, I'm not a mod here.

There should be a lot of ups and downs with everyone included.

Alabama just reloads, but the West is SEC tough
Ohio St didn't play anybody last year, and still could run the table again...UGH
Oregon has a new coach
Stanford usually stumbles
Georgia has to be able to stop teams
TAM is overrated, and Johnny football is becoming Johnny eff'up
Carolina could be real good, but depth hurts
Clemson always finds a way to self-destruct, and the defense must get way better
Louisville is an impostor to the top 10, but the record should be good
UF still has a bad offense, but lots of young talent. QB must elevate his game

Missing is FSU, LSU, Oklahoma

Michigan may be a sleeper
Notre Dame is gonna have a hard time

Yeah, looking bad now, still can't wait for football. Penn State fan, so I'm just hoping to knock off OSU!

Season kicks off this week.

I will be attending the UCF/Akron game on Thursday night.

Anyone else going this week?

They play at PSU in a few weeks, and next year will "host" PSU in Ireland (not sure it's official yet)

UNC is a joke, offense is gimmicky and defense is prone to giving up big plays. I can't believe people actually gave them a chance.

I forgot how awesome games are when Tessitore calls them. Vandy/Miss was nuts!

Fresno St./Rutgers was insane last night. Kyle Flood made a tragic mistake going for two in the first OT. Dumb call.

Already had our first FBS upset. Towson beat UConn last night.

UCONN fans must have had some great call in shows after that game.

North Dakota State (two-time defending FCS Champs) just won their fourth straight game against a D1 opponent. They upset K-State in a close one.

I would imagine they'll be the next major FCS program to make the jump to D1. With all the conference realignment, I could imagine them moving to the CUSA/Mountain West in a year or two.

Looks like K-State got complacent after leading 21-7.

I only saw the last couple of minutes, but for NDS to go on a 17-play game winning drive ...... had to make all of the KSU fans sick to their stomachs..... as evidenced by the TV crowd shots near the end of the game.

Wisconsin kicks off the Gary Andersen Era against UMass today.

James White will take the brunt of the carries now that Montee Ball is gone. Lots of talent in the front seven on the defensive side.

This team lost a few close games last season and should have had a much better record going into the Rose Bowl. I could see them winning 9 games this year, but the Big 10 will be hard to gauge.

Yet another reason why I can't stand Urban Meyer.

hawkeyes haven't been perfect but i like what they are doing on offense, can actually move the ball plus some down the field action

after a rough start they have rallied on northern illinois which is good

Watching Alabama against any other team is just not fair. Its like a professional team against a college team (but I guess Saban is paying his guys, so are they pros in a sense?). Virginia just looks scared.

I want two things to happen tonight: I want TCU to beat LSU and I want UGA/Clemson to keep being awesome.

Return to NCAA Football
