B1G expansion idea

Post#1 » by Manocad » Wed Oct 19, 2016 10:11 pm

Heard on Detroit talk radio today...

The Big 12 has become a disaster. Texas is getting $15 million from their exclusive TV network contract and the network is losing millions per year. So this idea was proposed--the B1G picks up Texas and Oklahoma; only those two teams. It becomes a 16-team conference with two 8-team divisions, East and West. You'd get the Red River showdown in the West and Michigan-Ohio State in the East plus a conference championship game. This move could get Texas $50 million in TV revenue.

I LOVE this idea and as a huge college football fan would be beside myself if it happened. Thoughts?

Interesting thought. Texas and Oklahoma will certainly be looking for a new home in the near future, I'm very interested to see whether they do go to the B1G, or if the Pac 12 tries to make a case as well. I don't see them splitting up, but I suppose that's a possibility too. Assuming the Big 12 DOES go down in flames here soon, I imagine the Pac 12 will be gunning as hard as they can to get Texas and Oklahoma, and if that doesn't happen, Houston and Baylor/TCU.

texas, ohio state, michigan in the same conference? revenues would galore. conference might be too powerful even compared to other 16 team super conferences.

Man it would be so weird to have Texas and Oklahoma in the PAC 12.

They're not pacific at all

im pretty sure the state of oklahoma wont let the 2 schools there get split up. and if that's the case, it might hurt OU getting into the pac 12 or big 10 which supposedly prides itself on academics since ok st is pretty crappy

the other issue (besides not breaking up the oklahoma schools which i think stud is right about) is how strongly will texas hold onto its own network, because i don't think the big10 will let them keep it

I don't see why they'd want to. Texas gets $15 mil a year from their tv deal and the network stands to lose $8 mil this year, which is easily the BEST year it's had. As I posted, it's speculated that Texas could get $50 mil from the B1G.

In a perfect world, B1G gets Texas, Oklahoma, and ND, and gets rid of Rutgers pathetic arse.

I would even accept OK St in place of ND (since ND apparently is afraid of the B1G)

Just get rid of Rutgers please, they are less than a MAC team.
