How Long Will It Take for Lloyd Carr to Lose His Job?

Post#1 » by Da Schwab » Sat Sep 8, 2007 10:29 pm

The 4th quarter just started and Michigan is down 39-7.

So, this will surely be Big Blue's 4th consecutive loss, dating back to last season (Ohio State, USC and App. State).

Is this Lloyd Carr's last game as head coach of the Michigan Wolverines?

IMO, yes it is. I expect to hear him resign by Tuesday.

Your thoughts?

I expect him to get fired when they lose to Notre Dame next week.

just because he is a classy guy and has a championship under his belt, he ll "retire" at the end of the season. or if he cant stand the pressure and sports talk shows, he ll resign probably after ND game. he wont get "fired" though.

Yeah that was my bad. I wanted to write next week at ND instead of season.

Carr will not be fired, no way. That's not how UM does things, plus they want to keep him around in the AD for fundraising and all that off-field stuff, which he is exceptional at.

I do expect Carr to announce he's going to step down at the end of the season, perhaps as early as Monday. But I really don't think he's at that point yet. It would take a loss to a very poor ND team next week to make him do that IMO.

What is really hurting the Michigan faithful is that the guy who everyone assumed (and wanted) to take over for Carr is the Defensive Coordinator Ron English. But he's been so horribly outmaneuvered and unable to make needed adjustments that his star has completely fallen. I don't say this lightly, but the UM front 7 is the worst in the Big Ten and the secondary is probably one of the slowest in DI. Even guys with just normal speed are blowing right past them. I know the Wolverine boosters desperately want to keep the job in-house, but right now they just don't have any compelling candidates to replace Carr.

FYI--Henne is out for at least the next two weeks and probably until late October, according to a person in the sports info office I know. And Hart will never be better than day-to-day the rest of this season--his hamstring is thisclose to rupturing.

From a scouting standpoint I'm bitterly disappointed with Manningham. I had him pegged as a better collegian than NFLer but still a good #2 WR with sound fundamentals and great hands. He has not been pretty to watch and I've downgraded his status from late-1st/early 2nd to 4th/5th round for now.

^ no way... manningham is that bad? i thought he's pretty decent the last two games even though henne is choking like hell.

chad henne has not future. /period

mike hart is a beast but nfl teams will look into his injury seriously... i don't really know if anyone wants to have a RB that is being worked like hell during college years..

as for the michigan slow defense... who the hell recruited these guys? how can you have slow DBs? that's unbelievable. plus, this isn't the first time michigan got burned by fast offense. remember rose bowl vs. texas and vince young? deja vu.

Come to think of it this horrible start might bite the Buckeyes in the ass. With Michigan's resources and their program being a top 5 Football Program they can go out and hire a really good football coach.

I think the die has already been cast. He's lost the job, it's just the timing that is in question. I doubt they fire him until the season is over.

Michigan always has trouble with quicker teams, they continuously go out to the Rose bowl and cant beat the faster teams from the west coast or in the case of Texas and Vince Young just plain look inept. I agree with Icness that their defense is terrible, they'll find their comfort level at some point in the big-10 but they've already shown they arent any good. As for Carr i guess you would have to be a diehard Wolverines fan to care what his status is going forward.
