Four Weeks Gone, Little Change In The Polls

Post#1 » by Da Schwab » Sun Sep 23, 2007 8:13 pm

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/rankingsindex

Well, after a month of exciting college football USC still remains the #1 team in the nation (as expected), but LSU takes a small chunk of the Trojans power in the polls.

- Only two new additions to the Top 25: Arizona State jumps to #23 and Cincinnati jumps to #24, after both teams have impressive 4-0 starts.

- With two new teams in the Top 25, means 2 schools dropout: Louisville drops from #18 to the outskirts after a shocking loss to Syracuse, and Texas A&M falls out after getting waxed by the Canes.

- Oklahoma and Florida switch places in the Top 5 and Rutgers gains a spot and makes an appearence in the Top 10.

- Oregon, BC, Clemson and Kentucky all continue their rise up through the rankings.

- Biggest Loser in the Top 25: Penn State falls from #10 to #21.

-Biggest Winner: Kentucky (#21 to #14) and Georgia (#22 to #15) each gain 7 spots.

At this rate with all the upsets Boston College is going to make it in the top 10. They play Bowling Green and Umass next.

Great to see Cincy get some love--they're going to be there consistently in the next few years. The embattled Ben Mauk quietly putting up huge numbers, and Trevor Canfield might be the first OG drafted.

I like the AP poll better--Georgia is the best one-loss team in the country and no way is Michigan State one of the 25 best teams. Beating UAB, Pitt, and Notre Dame is something 75 other teams could do, though BG ain't half bad and BC had better not sleep on them.

USC has a long way to go before they run the table but if they do they play the winner of Florida vs LSU (sorry sooners), that's how i see it.

Why? Oklahoma has beat better teams (which is saying a lot considering who they have played) and has looked more impressive doing it.

Good tests for both WVU and Oklahoma this week. USF is more than capable of beating the Mountaineers--they did it last year (in Morgantown, no less!) with a lesser defense than they've got now. Colorado isn't real good but they're fundamentally sound, plus they can run the ball to control some clock.

Huge Gator fan, and right now I don't really care where we our ranked, be it 3, 4, 5, or even 6. If we beat Auburn Saturday and then LSU, the Gators arguably could be number 1 and for sure number 2. The only thing keeping them from number one is the media's love affair with USC.

Whoever wins the LSU/Florida game, if still undefeated, should be #1 by a long shot.
