Week 8 (Oct. 18-20) thread

Post#1 » by Icness » Thu Oct 18, 2007 1:56 pm

This week kicks off Thursday night at Rutgers, where the Scarlet Knights try to salvage a disappointing season by knocking off the #2 USF Bulls. Rutgers appears to have found a rhythm in the passing game, which they

Kevin Smith ... better than Ray Rice? You're kidding, right?

Today feels like RU-Louisville all over again. There's a buzz around RU Football right now, and tonight, the nation is about to see RU on the main stage again.

Grothe is definitely a solid QB, though he isn't the best of passers. He'll be able to move the ball well against the RU defense early in the game. Adjustments will be key at the half, and his success will depend on the packages that Schiano throws at him. The RU defense showed flashes of the defense last year, and if the complex packages keep coming ... it might be a really tough night for Grothe.

The game definitely lies in the RU offense vs the USF defense. A good QB, a great RB, 3 far above average WRs (and 3 of the best 5 WRs USF has seen all year), along with two NFL-ready offensive tackles will tell this story. RU has the potential to put up 38 in this game, even against USF's talented D. Selvie will most likely be contained by All-Big East LT Pedro Sosa.

It all depends on the interceptions, and turnovers. Neither of these teams can afford to turnover the ball more than the other. Whoever does, loses.

Anyways, RU wins tonight ... easier than some might expect. RU 27, USF 17.

I saw South Florida handle West Virginia. I don't like to use that word lightly, but South Florida just kept attacking, kept attacking, kept attacking. I see upset potential but I'm not sold on Mike Teel at all.

My Ducks are traveling to Seattle Saturday to take on the Fuskies (monkeyfeng, we're coming for you) in what's sure to be a heated game in the stands. On the field, it will be competitive for maybe a half, but I'm real eager to see Jake Locker in action. (I'll be at the game and I'm PUMPED.) Oregon's defense figured out how to consistently get backfield pressure against a terrible WSU team; UW's not THAT bad but it will hopefully be more of the same.

I don't think USC dominates Notre Dame, but I'm pretty sure USC's DL runs through Notre Dame's OL like they're made of paper. I'll go out on a limb and predict two defensive TDs in this game between the two teams. Oh, and Mark Sanchez is a punk.

Love the Illinois story this year, but as a Duck fan I'm rooting against them Saturday. The better the Wolverines look, the better that beatdown September 8 looks.

I feel bad for Northwestern and Duke. I wish they could field competitive football teams, but they probably never will.

God, if I controlled college football OSU would lose to MSU today. I'm sick and tired of seeing them at the top of the college football polls year after year. [/nonsenserant]

Cal/UCLA would be fun if McLeod Bethel-Johnson wasn't terrible. I think Longshore's back for this one too, so that's a huge plus going Cal's way. I regarded UCLA's win last year against USC as a fluke, and I think this could be another flukish win.

Tonight's game is going to make my hair fall out. If there's one team in the Big Least that can expose the Bulls' extremely weak midfield run-stopping D, its Rutgers.

But, I'll stick with my Bulls and take them 34-24 over Rutgers.

I'm really excited for the UF-UK game, too. Go Cats!

Ray Rice is the man.

If BC can hold serve they'll be the new number #2.

I really don't want to live in a world where BC is in the national championship game.

i watched a game on espn classic w/auburn vs. florida about a dozen years ago and they showed the bottom line and it showed duke was ranked #25. it really freaked me out.

Another reason why Steve Spurrier is a freaking awesome coach--he built Duke into a Top 25 program for a brief time.

I dont think Va Tech is as good this year as in the past and the way the Eagles handled Georgia Tech convinced me they're for real. Dont think they're the 2nd best team in the country but not sure the hokies are better.

man im just getting updates on espngamecast but DJ Hall is a beast, 10 catches 130 yards and its only halftime. He is the Alabama offense, up 24-17 at the half. hopefully saban doesnt sit on the lead and they dont have to squeak out a win for about the 5th time this year

What a crappy week for football. No real excitement for me.

I was actually hoping the USC/Notre Dame game would be a little competitive.
