Apparently Tommy Bowden has been canned at Clemson.

This part of the article really bothered me, especially the quote at the end:

Clemson's season started with a big thud, a 24-point loss to then-No. 24 Alabama that senior quarterback Cullen Harper said "really hurt our confidence."

Harper, who was benched after the Tigers' loss to Wake Forest and replaced by highly regarded sophomore Willy Korn, said Bowden needed to be let go.

"They just told us. It's what he deserved," he said. "Dabo Swinney is a fine man and will do an excellent job."

Way to throw the guy who recruited you under the bus, Mr. Harper.

Not a surprising move. Clemson needed a new voice for their program. Bowden should get another job in the future. But as for Harper, he needs to shut his mouth. If it wasnt for Bowden, he would have never went to Clemson.

Bowden has always been regarded as a master recruiter but not a real good developer or utilizer of all the talent he got to go to Clemson. Sort of like Ron Zook. Can't argue that he had to go. I've seen reports that he quit on his own or that he was given the opportunity to resign instead of being fired--which only matters to his wallet.

I made my first trip to Clemson SC two years ago. I don't want to offend anyone who lives near there or attends Clemson, but good God what a lousy place! I mean, I was there in October and it was still brutally humid and there was zero breeze. I lived in Richmond for a few years so it's not like i don't know southern heat or anything, but the stillness in Clemson was just eerie. You can smell the old paper mills in the air; it's not overwhelming but you are aware of it. There isn't much to do, nothing really to see around there. The campus is okay, nothing special. I compare it to VA Tech, which is also located in a place you wouldn't ever want to be, but Blacksburg has a lot more going for it than Clemson (the city).

skill positions can be recruited. but the difference is recruiting the defensive and offensive front. USC for example, has a long history of getting the offensive lineman dating back to anthony munoz. and weve had "some" success with the defensive front. sedrick ellis was the last bigman in the middle for us defensively.

but clemson has ZERO. i dont care who their runningbacks and receivers are, if you dont have the hogs up front to push, it aint gonna happen. nick saban did an excellent job of recruiting big time people up front. florida had some speed they just sent to the league. ohio state has had a few. and if you look at the top major teams currently, the oklahomas, alabamas etc....all have powerful fronts to deal with. without that edge, the writing was on the wall with clemson, and they are done. north carolina currently has a star in this kid marvin austin at noseguard, and this kid is a beast in the middle. its the reason why they are rising toward the top of the conference.

Clemson is a hard place to get depth of talent.

It's in the middle of nowhere with not much to do.

Their recruiting base for them isn't exactly close by either.

In the early 1980's, Clemson was a beast with Dan Ford as the coach. But he got players ($$$$) on the sly and not only blew up that program but also Arkansas a few years later.

It's a tough situation to be in, as without depth, they can not maintain consistency. Like Lakeshow said, they have 2 NFL RB's in the backfield, a QB with all of the tools, but can't win when they should.

My suggestion? Clemson should hire Tuberville from Auburn...he still knows how to pass out the recruiting enticements ($$$$$$$)

and tuberville would be absolutely (Please Use More Appropriate Word) to leave auburn. why would he unless he's an alum from clemson when he already has a program that will always be better then clemson?
