the 2 teams that are undefeated, i.e. alabama and texas tech will go to the national championship game.

however, if he had to pick 2 teams who are the best 2 RIGHT NOW!

USC and fl.

Texas Tech are the Phoenix Suns (pre-Shaq) of college football. They'll outscore most anybody in the regular season, but when it comes down to the playoffs (bowl games) they will meet some good defensive teams (hopefully) and they will be eliminated.

I can't say I disagree. I think USC with their defense beats TT and Fl will beat Bama. Our offense is much better and defense is comparable

By the way his comment makes no sense. If Fl is better than Bama as he suggests, than Fl will beat Bama in the sec championship game. If Bama is still undefeated by the title game...that means they are better than us since they would have beaten us. His logic makes no sense

^he rarely makes any sense

i just dont see tech beating oklahoma and advancing to national championship game. my money is on the texas vs. florida matchup at the end.

he does have a point though, USC and Florida are the most talented teams but whether they are the most deserving to play for championship is another issue and yet to be determined.

I don't know if I agree with this. You don't really know how good of defenses Texas, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State have because of how good the offenses are in the Big 12.

I agree........and I also think Herbstreet is wrong. I doubt either one survives.

It doesn't matter much who the best two teams are right now. What matters is who wins the Big 12 and SEC. Because of their relatively weak conferences, the Pac 10, Big 10, or Big East champs all have to have unblemished records in order to merit consideration in the argument. USC might very well be playing better than anyone else right now (I would say they're no worse than 2nd) but they lost their dog in the fight at Oregon State. They need help because of their own failure. It happened for Ohio State last year so it's not out of the question at all. They need to root for Florida to run the table and the Big 12 North champ to pull a shocker.
It's not whether you win or lose, it's how good you look playing the game

Gators appear to be the whole package.

Only USC has the same balance.

The Big 12 teams lack defense........

Gators are the best team in the nation

USC has the best defense ive seen the last decade, but no one cares because they might not even be in the rose bowl

playoff please.

Yeah I agree too. If D1AA and D2 can have a playoff system, why cant D1 have one?

Fl is the best team in the nation, they have one more test in Bama and then National championship game.

If there was a playoffs, you've had

Bama vs Penn meh Defensive game
Tech vs Utah meh ass whooping
Texas vs USC :o Nice
Fl vs Oklahoma :o Nice

What has USC done since their loss to Oregon St? Blow out the crappy pac10 teams and squeak by Arizona and Cal? I'd say they're maybe a top5 team now, but closer to the 4-8 range rather than a top 2 team.

To be honest i dont think that Bama or TTech are the top 2 teams. Even though thire records show that they are undefeated i still think that Florida is the best team and a toss up between USC, and Bama. But i think that Tech should at the highest right now be #4 ( yes even with 0 losses)

It is because people are stupid and don't realize that a playoff system would make their stupid "bowls" even more significant and boost their ratings, the players should organize and go on strike.
