Muschamp To Be Head-Coach-In Waiting At Austin

Post#1 » by A.J. » Wed Nov 19, 2008 3:19 am

Yahoo! - Texas defensive coordinator Will Muschamp has been designated as the head-coach-in-waiting by the university, expected to take over the Longhorns when Mack Brown retires.

Great move for the Longhorns. He was almost certain to leave for a head coaching job after this season.

that doesnt really mean anything. when a team offers a true "head coaching" position, he will bolt. the money is there at the moments notice, the full control is there, and it is immediate. while theres no mandating for him to stay there forever, and there is no definite answer as to when mack brown will be stepping down. so theoretically, he could be the texas head coach in the year 2020

true, that is a good chunk of change. however, a coach like musgrave i would think is not necessarily motivated by money. there are coaches are in it for the challenge. the opportunity. the control. the head man and mold a program. and taking a program and winning with it.

maybe he doesn't want to go mold a program somewhere, maybe he wants to stay at Texas
can't blame him for that

Mack Brown's only 57. He's not going anywhere for awhile. There's going to several programs within the next couple years with coaching vacancies starting with Tennessee, Syracuse, Clemson, and Washington this year, with Auburn, A&M, and Tech (if Leach leaves) conceivably opening up within a few years for Muschamp to jump ship.
