fla vs tex

Post#1 » by GSWbandwagon » Thu Dec 11, 2008 4:13 am

i find it interesting that everyone assumes that the team texas should be upset with going ahead of them is oklahoma and everyone just kind of accepts fla being in the title game legit. i think that a very legitimate argument is there for tx to go ahead of fla.

the computers almost unanimously have tx ahead of fla, some by a couple spots. in the computers, tx is easily #2.

tx's best win is slightly better than fla's. tx beat #1, fla beat #4. both wins came on neutral fields. fla only has one regular season win over a currently ranked team (#16 georgia) to go with their sec title game win. texas has three regular season wins over ranked teams (#1, #13, #25) and was denied a likely 4th by not making the b12 title game.

tx's loss is MUCH better than fla's. fla lost to 8-4 #20 ole miss at home. texas lost to 11-1 #8 texas tech on the road on the last play from scrimmage.

the two arguments against texas would be that no one wants a rematch and that they didn't win their conference. the point of the bcs is to take the top 2 teams, and if #2 happens to be in the same conference as #1 then you should take someone who didn't win their conference. the rematch thing is mostly an entertainment complaint, but its usually lodged when the lower ranked team has already lost to the higher ranked team. in this case, texas beat oklahoma on a nuetral field by 2 scores and thus the "they had their shot" argument doesn't apply. plus we already had a rematch title game once so its clearly not a deal breaker.

i loathe mack brown and have no problems with him coming up short (i cheer against all 3 teams involved but texas is easily the one i dislike the most of the 3), but i find it odd that no one seems to question #2 fla's presence in the title game and only focuses on #1 oklahoma.
