The official RealGM Recruiting Thread aka LAKESHOW's Lounge
Rivals' Top 100
Best undeclared prospects available:
2. Reuben Randle/WR/AL Current lean: LSU
8. Devon Kennard/DE/AZ Current lean: USC
10. Jelani Jenkins/LB/MD Current lean: Penn State
11. Dre Kirkpatrick/DB/AL Current lean: Alabama
12. Manti Te'o/LB/HI Current lean: taking a Mormon mission and finding inner peace
27. Greg Reid/DB/GA Current lean: Alabama
Other names to watch for: Tajh Boyd, Patrick Patterson, Orson Charles, Xavier Su'a Filo
Rivals' top recruiting classes
1. LSU (20 recruits)
2. Ohio State (24)
3. Texas (20)
4. Alabama (20)
5. The fighting LAKESHOWS (17)
For the criminally obsessed: Rivals' top 250 for 2010 (not in numerical order)
If you prefer Scout over Rivals...that's your prerogative. I find Rivals the more professional site, hence my linking to them. Scout seems to get all kinds of info, though, and they bat for about the same average. But the site design is unpleasant and I prefer Rivals' SEC bias to Scout's California/Washington bias.
Use this thread to: announce new commitments, ask about new commitments, and QUOTE ARTICLES. ANYONE WHO STARTS A MILLION UNSUBSTANTIATED RUMORS WILL BE BANNED INSTANTANEOUSLY WITHOUT REMORSE.
Have fun, kids!

Re: The official RealGM Recruiting Thread aka LAKESHOW's Lounge
As expected it's a down year for ND recruiting after having the #1 class last season. They still have a solid class, but they focused on filling needs (a long snapper and two kickers are 3 of their 17 current commits) and having a small group this year to keep scholarships for 2010. Next year they'll be in the Top 5 again with two Top 100 commits already and a much more talent in the Midwest (really down year for the region in 09).
4 star safety Byron Moore recently de-committed from USC and is deciding between LSU and ND.
4 star back Tyler Gaffney decides between Stanford, ND and USC today with Stanford being the heavy favourite.

Re: The official RealGM Recruiting Thread aka LAKESHOW's Lounge
the fighting LAKESHOWs, thats harsh nelson, really harsh. and hey, the SHOW doesnt bring anything but LOVE, not HATE. so stop ridin hard on your fellow pac-10 brother. the undefeated conference during this last bowl run.
secondly, it is the USC pro-style offense that draw recruits. we run what will be successful at the next level(minus agents), and the recruits know this. our kids get drafted, and sometimes drafted high and it is a huge draw to the program. we also run both the 4-3 and 3-4 styles of defense, another draw for recruits.
thirdly, ive got TONS of inside in formation, that might be construed as rumor, and being a good citizen, do not want to get banned.
some general inside USC knowledge: USC at this point, does not need to recruit 200 of the top athletes, because we already have great ones in place. for example, rey maualuga is gone, but chris gallippo, who is slotted at middle linebacker, is another high school all american that many may not have heard about. but like many USC QBs, has been waitin in line and his opportunity. which is here now. what does this mean? we pinoint with accuracy a key recruit here or there. we have a linebacker coming in whos name is vontaze burfict, this guy is an absolute BEAST in the middle. simply awesome. so with the top backers who have left, if we get him and manti, that would all that we would need. if we get 1 that would be great. if we get both and say steal a jelani jenkins, that would be fantastic. but again, we only need to pinoint a few here or there. now thats what you call having the recruiting down to a science. unlike some of our sec counterparts, who try to hoarde everything and everybody, and weed out and dump the undesirables.
manti is a USC lean because of our stature on the west coast. on the east coast, they are not too familiar with the polynesian athlete. the tongans, samoans, hawaiians, etc... immigrants from the islands. USC has a history of successful polynesian players, for example, jr. seau, and these kids grow up seeing this and they want to be a part of it. while in the southeast, they have top notch players out there, but very few if any of these hard hitting, hard to pronounce naming, polynesian players. thats why they predominantly dot the western landscape. i'm sure phillip N knows about this, due to many also being sought after by oregon. i think the QB masoli is a polynesian. (not totally sure). but manti is a lean because of this history and of course, we are winning.
also, the coaching staff draws recruits. sure some have left. but weve got a guy comin in from the denver broncos. tampa bay before that i believe. and he is an excellent offensive coach. defensively weve lost coach holt, but when a guy like ken norton, a legend down in texas, comes to your house, cooks up barbcue, and sits down and eats with a recruit and his family, it is extremely difficult to look at that and say no. so the coaching staff is a gigantic draw for players.
lastly again about the system, the system of play draws recruits. and lets face it, we all know what will happen to tebow after college. and he will NOT be the next brett farvre as foretold by one skip bayless of ESPN. pleeeeeze. weve lost mark sanchez, a great recruit and NFL prepared QB. but believe this, weve got some guys comin in who are just as big and strong. including an outstanding freshman QB named matt barkley who only has 1 thing on his mind, to sit the bench, take notes and watch the others play. but one day, this guy will be a top notch NFL QB, yes, this kid has all the goods. a QB that runs the spread system of offense in college? not so much.

SMITE ME, O MIGHTY SMITER!
tajh boyd is likely signing with osu, though clemson is making a late push. also i am hearing 5th ranked reciever marlon brown is leaning towards coming to columbus after his visit, he is impressed with tressel's track record of sending wr s to pros.
canes are trying to sneak up and steal 4 star o-lineman marcus hall from our backyard but i d surprised if he goes anywhere else.
i would reach nirvana if osu can get morgan moses, guy is a beast in the at the line, but getting hime is a long shot at best.
no matter what happens with these players, 09 class shaping up rather nicely. corey brown and dorian bell are going to be studs, tressel also dipped into good florida talent pool. add last years' stellar class, this team is going to be something special in 2 years.

Re: The official RealGM Recruiting Thread aka LAKESHOW's Lounge
Well, Tahj Boyd committed to Clemson today, which is what I was expecting. I'm happy he didn't go to Ohio State, but I definitely feel like Oregon lost out. Clemson isn't really a national threat for all the recruits they get, though, which is why I don't care as much.
Kennard is a nice pickup for USC (even though he was pretty much a lock there) but what's up with that Byron Moore kid? Even though Mays returns it never hurts to add secondary help to a class. They need to get him back in the fold.
LAKESHOW: A couple points from your earlier post: 1. Jeremiah Masoli is indeed Polynesian (Samoan) and all the Pac-10 programs seem to take good care of the Polynesian kids they get; 2. From everything I read, Te'o is a BYU lean still, with USC the runner-up and Stanford the dark horse. I don't know Carroll's record with Mormon players, though, and that could factor in.
GYBE: How good is Cierre Wood supposed to be?

Re: The official RealGM Recruiting Thread aka LAKESHOW's Lounge
Also, feel free to use this thread to analyze your team's recruiting class...allow me to lead by example.
Oregon Ducks (18 commitments for 2009)
DEFENSIVE LINE
Zac Clark (JC DE, KS) (6-3, 250, 4.8)
Terrence Montgomery (JC DT, CA) (6-2, 295)
Anthony Anderson (HS DE, CA) (6-3, 224, 4.6)
Keaton Arden (HS DE, CA) (6-5, 215)
Taylor Hart (HS DE, OR) (6-6, 255, 4.7)
Andrew Iupati (JC DT, CA) (6-1, 295)
Defensive line is a weakness for the Ducks as they enter the 2009 season. The defensive end spot has a nice-looking two-deep, but the DT position is very thin. Bellotti went ahead with a bunch of junior-college kids to secure the line, and Montgomery and Clark are already enrolled, which should help matters significantly. The high-schoolers are all high-upside guys who will likely redshirt for the purposes of strength training.
OFFENSIVE LINE
Karrington Armstrong (HS OL, NV) (6-2, 300, 5.0)
Everett Benyard (HS OL, CA) (6-6, 318, 5.1)
Jamaal Burrell (HS OL, CA) (6-4, 260, 5.2)
Trevor Fox (HS OL, CA) (6-4, 293)
Classic offensive line recruitment for Oregon. Not a big name on the list, per se, but all these kids are young and highly projectable. All of them should redshirt this season unless a serious depth issue arises, and that's not out of the question. Benyard projects as a future LT; the other three are all guards. Oregon's line will be very young next year, as no seniors are expected to start.
LINEBACKERS
Michael Clay (HS LB, CA) (5-11, 205)
Bryson Littlejohn (JC LB, CA) (6-0, 235)
Boseko Lokombo (HS LB, Canada) (6-3, 216)
Again, Oregon isn't expected to start a senior in the linebacking corps, but there is plenty of depth at the position. Littlejohn will see immediate playing time, and the other two will likely redshirt. Depending upon who you talk to, Lokombo could be a great collegiate linebacker or an athletic bust.
DEFENSIVE BACKS
Cliff Harris (HS CB, CA) (6-0, 165, 4.5)
Brian Jackson (HS S, AL) (5-10, 192, 4.5)
Avery Patterson (HS CB, CA) (5-9, 163, 4.4)
The positional group I'm most excited about; IMO, the best in the class. Harris is a top-3 cover corner in the nation and arguably the best; Jackson projects as a FS with excellent instincts; Patterson is a fluid athlete with blazing speed. Oregon has depth issues at safety, and Jackson needs extra seasoning, but I'm really excited about these guys continuing Oregon's great recent run of defensive backs.
SPECIALISTS
Mike Bowlin (HS K, CA)
Jackson Rice (HS P, CA)
The Ducks lost their punter and kickoff specialist from last year, so hauling the best punter in the nation and one of the best kickers is a great way to make up for it.
WIDE RECEIVER
Lavasier Tuinei (JC WR, CA) (6-6, 195, 4.5)
I know nothing about Tuinei other than that he's a 4-to-play-3, but I'm really excited for his potential. This is not a strong positional group for the Ducks, but the possibilities of the 6-6 Tuinei lining up opposite 6-6 redshirt freshman Dion Jordan in the endzone is just too wonderful.
RECRUITING NEEDS
-WR. Oregon does not have a single senior WR on the roster and could use someone who could play immediately. Arizona athlete Adam Hall is being recruited heavily, presumably for this purpose.
-DT. Again, the depth is not really there, especially at the HS level.
-TE. Oregon has great depth at this position but I'd like to see them bring in a kid to redshirt.
-S. Again, not a lot of depth here.
-RB. It would be nice, but I won't hold my breath. Still, Oregon will lose LeGarrette Blount and Andre Crenshaw next season, which is not promising. The Ducks did pick up a 2010 commit from a Florida kid named Ethan Grant, but I know nothing about him other than the hopelessly generic "he's fast".

Damn nice job PNF. I don't really mind losing out on Boyd since the Ducks have some QB by the name of Darron Thomas.

first of all, byron moore is an excellent player. i personally wouldve loved to have picked him up, but the lineup is deep. i mean waaaay back on the bench deep.
starting taylor mays, 1st round pick. pinkard senior, another high rounder if not for injury. but this year he could play his way up the ladder. marshall jones, will harris, drew mcallister and shane horton. all excellent unheard of guys by many, but believe, highly touted in high school and game changers.
secondly, on the bench coming in, patrick hall 4star out of ventura , TJ mcdonald 5star out of fresno, and chris metcalf 3star out of compton. moore is a 4star out of lomita california, and he could be the one that got away, but after further assessment from the staff, since he himself backed off from his commitment seeing the talent already stacked, we might need to open up a scholarship slot for other coaches and their needs in other areas of the team. sorry if it doesnt work out with him and he takes a schollie somewhere else, but hey, theres still a chance but its up to him, and its a very tough task indeed with whats already brought in.
secondly, manti has supposedly dropped byu. and just like the arizona state folks, the mormon folks at byu are pissed. now it could be a fake ploy where he ends up at byu, but the reports is that hes dropped byu from his list, and is considering USC, ND and ucla. UCLA?? anyhow, those are the reports.
as a small tidbit(rumor alert), some players in our history have considered USC if the program gives up a certain number. 20 for example for bing. a retired number. the AD garrett didnt see it as a problem(it was his number anyhow), and it was granted. supposedly, manti is requesting the #5 to be used, since it was his number. now i dont believe it, he seems to be a team player all the way and would take any number given. but #55, #58 are also available and he could take those numbers and at USC, those numbers are sacred. those are numbers that dont sit the bench. big numbers and big shoes to fill indeed. 55 goes back to jr. seau, claiborne, mcginnest etc... while 58 with lofatatupu and rey maualuga.
anyhow, back to the topic, manti seems to be goin our way, but we shall see. things turn on a dime in the recruiting world. but we have a vontaze burfict, the #1 linebacker in the nation. and if this kid manti comes on board, that would be the #1 and #2(depending on which recruiting service) linebackers in the country landing at USC. loaded with kennard and safeties mentioned above, we would have a formiddable defensive alignment in the future. and by the way, we do allow mormons to be a part of the program and take their missions if they choose. but that is up to them, but they also know, it is extremely tough with the competition they face.

I really don't know. Going into the year he was widely seen as a Top 2 back in the country with Bryce Brown. Then in the All-America game he only had a couple carries and didn't impress the scouts in practice, so he was dropped to a 4 star. I like him. He's a back that seems so much faster when the ball's in his hands because of how elusive he is. His running style reminds me of a much smaller back like Steve Slaton.
As Lakeshow said, Te'o is down to USC, ND and UCLA. USC has to be the favourite, but his parents seem to like ND and Weis keeps making in-home visits.
Nyshier Oliver had his scholarship pulled by ND after he lied to the staff and visited Tennessee. He's a Vol now. Wide Receiver is probably the least pressing need in the program though, I'm not too upset.
Byron Moore dropped LSU...and then decided to take a visit to Colorado out of the blue. He says now it's between Colorado, ND and USC (again?).

Re: The official RealGM Recruiting Thread aka LAKESHOW's Lounge
Byron Moore went back to USC.
But I really can't be too upset right now. Not after Manti Te'o chose the Irish. It's hard to overstate how huge this commitment is. With all the heat around Weis and a fairly dissapointing class, ND desperately needed some good news. He's the highest ranked defensive player ND has gotten this decade. I was really expecting to lose to USC like we usually do.

And on Te'o, how in the blue f**k did Charlie Weis convince a Mormon to attend a Catholic school? He must be better at recruiting than I though, or the Mormon Church is preparing to kick Te'o out as we speak.

For you East Coast people: Morgan Moses to UVA (next top-5 pick in the NFL draft?) and Nu'Keese Richardson stolen from Florida by Tennessee.
EDIT: Patrick Patterson to Ole Miss and Jelani Jenkins to Florida.

OL Xavier Su'a-Filo to UCLA. Neuheisel is absolutely doing work today after stealing Stan Hasiak from Cal.
Oh, and the Ducks picked up WR Diante Jackson after all. Pretty damn impressive, since I'd written him off as a future Duck.
