What's up with those punt formations?

Hi all,

Rare poster here, but this has been getting annoying to see recently.

What's up with all those stupid punt formations where you have wide gaps in the line, and 3-4 defenders in front of the punter. It seems like almost all the time the punter barely gets the ball off in this formation.

Is there some actual logic behind this, or do college football coaches just over thinking it?
