Pretty excited about this. Hopefully he can bring back ND and make them relevant again.
And congrats to Golden Tate. He was a special player for ND.

I know what you're thinking. We're in the middle of a city, what's a hawk doing there?

what a terrible move to turn the back on his current team, he couldnt have waited another couple weeks? Yea hes a great hire, but come on, finish out what you started this year and not betray those 60 or so Cin college players.

Everyone begins heavy recruiting at this time of the year. Not formally accepting a job for another month hurts both the current and next team's recruiting - and the future team typically won't accept that.
That's why this happens every year. Only thing that might have a shot at fixing this is changes to NCAA rules.

He wanted to coach the final game but the AD at Cincy did not allow him to. The AD at Cincy threw him under the bus. The guys dream job opened up and ND wanted him, he should have known that Kelly was gone. And plenty of college coaches do this. Didn't Urban Meyer when he went to Florida?

i dont blame him he went for his dream job, that is what america is about
i suppose its the system that is flawed
i just think he couldve been more forthcoming with his team in the last couple week or so

Which is pretty always how it happens. If a coach truly refused to coach the bowl game, I'd knock him for that.

im all for it, if the guy wants to go for a better gig, then go for it. its his dream to do so.
however, the spurned kids have a right to talk trash.
the NCAA bans any kids from doin such things without penalty or sittin out a year or flat out deny the ability for any football player to go to another school.
yet no noise in regards to these coaches who wish to jump ship and leave the program on a moments notice.

Re: Brian Kelly new ND Coach
I've been waiting for this for a long time.
In 2007 I said:
"Brian Kelly is the next coach at Notre Dame, whenever we need one."
"Nothing scares me more than Brian Kelly being the next Michigan coach. I read he's in Ann Arbour today and I'm petrified."
In 2008:
"[Tennessee] may snatch up Brian Kelly before ND goes on their search. I like him best out of the Tier 2 names being thrown around. This is assuming ND strikes out on all the Tier 1 coaches who have ties to ND or have expressed interest in the past. I'm assuming none of them would leave at this point. These are guys like Nick Saban, Bob Stoops, Urban Meyer, etc.
That last point is why I'm still not totally overjoyed even though we got the coach I've wanted for years. Lots of ND insiders think Stoops was a realistic hire at one point before negotiations broke down. If Stoops was ever a possibility, the coaching search failed. Otherwise, I'm very happy to have Kelly.

Re: Brian Kelly new ND Coach
When Michigan State had their coaching search a few years ago, it was between Kelly, Dantonio, and some other guy. Kelly was the only one I knew about, but I knew I wanted him. If he had been the Spartans coach, he could have done huge things these past few years. But I suppose he still would have moved on, and we'd be stuck without a coach again. Maybe it's for the best that the Spartans hired the guy who is good, but not amazingly great enough to leave after 2 or 3 years.
Tom Gores' Securus faced a class action lawsuit in 2024. The company engaged in a "quid pro quo kickback scheme" with county jails in Michigan which banned in-person visits in order to maximize revenue from voice and video calls.

Well said, I agree 100%
This is the third time Kelly has jumped ship before his team plays its final game in the last 6 years. He left GVSU for CMU three days before their D-II title game (they let him coach it). He left CMU two weeks before a bowl game to head to Cincy, and now this.
It's not whether you win or lose, it's how good you look playing the game
