1. Alabama
BUZZ: The Tide will return numerous key offensive players off this season's title team, but coaches will need to replace seven defensive starters. Will there be a drop-off? And can the Tide make it two in a row?
2. Ohio State
BUZZ: The non-conference schedule isn't that daunting, and if coach Jim Tressel loosens the reins on the offense - as he did in the Rose Bowl - the Buckeyes should cruise to the Big Ten title. DE Cameron Heyward's decision to stay in school is an important one for Ohio State.
3. Oregon
BUZZ: QB Jeremiah Masoli and RB LaMichael James will return and they'll get to run behind a veteran line. The defense should be better, too.
4. Boise State
BUZZ: The Broncos have key non-conference games against Oregon State and Virginia Tech. If they win both, they could return to Glendale, Ariz. - but this time for the national title game.
5. USC
BUZZ: Coaching rumors aside, the Trojans will have the talent to get back on top in the Pac-10. A young defense this season will be an experienced defense next season.

Y'all know I loathe preseason polls, but this one is just asinine.

TCU loses 4 key starters on defense--all to the NFL, yet they stay the same or get better?

USC changes coaches, their OL turns completely over, the RB stable is greatly thinned, and they're 5th?!?

Virginia Tech brings back almost their entire defense that actually played except Worlds and Chancellor, the same one that whipped Tennessee, yet they have loads of holes? Their offense is more talented than Ohio State's and they play the same basic style.

Just 4 SEC teams, and LSU is there strictly on reputation because they're losing a lot of talent and what's taking those spots in mainly still in HS right now.

Nebraska loses the best college defender in years, their starting MLB, and starting QB and they get better?

Might as well give out the BCS bowl berths already:
Big Ten: the Iowa/OSU winner, with Wisconsin getting an at-large because they'll beat the loser too.
SEC: Alabama and the winner of LSU/Florida
Pac-10: Stanford/USC winner, with Oregon a shot for at-large
ACC: Virginia Tech or UNC
Big East: Pittsburgh's to lose
At large: Boise gets back if they beat either VT or Oregon State, and if one of BYU/TCU/Utah sweeps the other two and has zero or one loss overall they're in.
