Drop Shockey for Celek?

Post#1 » by Wasp » Thu Oct 1, 2009 3:27 pm

Pretty simple question - in my format I can't afford to carry 2 TE's so I have to choose one or the other. Should I drop Shockey for Celek (after this week and Celek's bye of course)?

Celek is third in the NFL in receptions ( Moss, Steve Smith CAR) and has twice the yardage that Shockey does. I think its safe to say that he is the possession receiver in that offence. I'd do it.

How about this TE question, I currently have John Carlson and Vernon Davis. I hate the Seattle Qb situation but do I trust Vernon to drop Carlson after SF's bye in week 6?

Give it another few weeks, but Cliff Levingston is pretty high on Vernon after two years killing Cliff Levingston. He's being used as a receiver now, not a blocker, and Shaun Hill doesn't have the arm strength to throw the ball to the sidelines consistently.

Thanks dude...much as I hate carrying 2 TE's ...I ;ll give Vernon a 2 week tryout, and then would drop Carlson.

Carlson should be really good once Hassellbeck gets back as well. Given the uncertainty of them both, Cliff Levingston wouldn't worry about carrying two tight ends. Cliff Levingston is carrying two tight ends in both his leagues that require a tight end; Greg Olsen and Vernon Davis in one, Jason Witten and Kellen Winslow in the other.

I don't have the space to carry two, but I face the same problem -- I've got Carlson and Davis is on the wire. 10 team league. Pick up Davis for the week (v. STL) and hope Carlson is still available next week to pick back up?

Would have to see who everyone else has at TE, but if everyone else in your league is dropping tight ends like wild too, it might not hurt.

No one's dropping because everyone's got a reasonably good TE and they're not streaming for matchups. Taken are: Dallas Clark, Brent Celek, Tony Gonzalez, John Carlson (me), Owen Daniels, Kellen Winslow, Jeremy Shockey, Jason Witten, Chris Cooley, Antonio Gates, Dustin Keller, and Greg Olsen. Only two guys carry backups (Olsen/Celek and Gonzalez/Shockey).

I think I should probably do it...
