Cutler's trade value

Post#1 » by Maritimer » Thu Sep 24, 2009 2:12 am

OK, I own both Rivers and Cutler in one league. They unfortunately have the same bye week, so after Cutler's week 4 Lions matchup I think I may have to move him. What's fair value in a 10 team league?

Bump. Any help here? I've now got Hasselbeck as my #2 QB, so I'm shopping Cutler. What's the best I can expect in return in a 1 for 1 deal?

What are you looking for? In a 10 team league I'm sure most teams have a QB at higher of similar value to Cutler so I'd first look for the teams that have the weakest QB's then go from there.

Ideas....

QB's are hard to trade...most people want to trade a QB for a better QB... perhaps you can package with a RB to someone willing to give you a lesser QB and better RB etc. Then you waive the other QB.

As suggested above see who has weak backup QB's and what week their main guy is on bye.....Cutler becomes more valuable if he's playing Detroit when they need him to start.

I'm looking for basically the best RB or WR I can get. There are a few guys who have QBs who have either a bye or a rough matchup in week 8, which is when Cutler and the Bears get Cleveland (I believe at home).

This is my first year of fantasy football, so I'm not sure what trade value a low end #1 QB has. A #2 WR? A #3 RB? More, less?

The one thing working in my favour, I guess, is that I don't care about getting a QB back. I've got a few guys who I'd love to package to get someone better. Let me give you one team who I think I've got a god chance to trade with. He's got Palmer and Sanchez. He's currently carrying two kickers because of last week's byes, so one needs to be replaced with a skill player. Here are the teams (without kickers, which I don't care about since I'm streaming).

My team:
Rivers / Cutler / Hasselbeck
Turner / LT / Bradshaw / Cadillac
Smith / Bowe / Ward / Walter
Davis
Jets

His:
Palmer / Sanchez
Forte / Benson / Portis / K. Smith
Ochocino / B. Edwards / Moss / Driver
Winslow
Steelers

Some ideas (FWIW, he's a Bengals fan):
Cutler/Cadillac for Kevin Smith
Cutler/LT for Forte
Cutler/Walter for B. Edwards

From ideas with other teams...
Cutler for Lynch
Cutler/S. Smith (CAR) for R. Moss (is that too greedy?)
Cutler/Walter for Welker
Cutler for Mendenhall (maybe a Welker/Walter swap as well?)

Are those reasonable value, or are those lowball offers?

Those deals are fair value, but I think I may have worded my previous post poorly. My point was that its hard to trade a QB without getting one back. Most people will want to avoid having three on their roster. Then they end up in the same situation that you are in - value sitting on the bench that they can't use.

Portis' value is pretty low despite his 2 tds last week. You might be to get him straight up and hope he turns things around. Portis owners are gonna be desperate soon, if not already.

Don't be overly afraid of offering a low deal, don't be blatant about it, but if you think something is fair, nothing wrong with putting it out there. You can always include a message to say "Do you think this is fair? "

People do get offended but only when its ridiculous , like the guy that offered me Donald Driver for Ahmad Bradshaw in the wake of Bradshaw's huge game on Sunday!

Yeah, that certainly seems to be where most of my league is at. Having very little luck finding anyone willing to trade for him, even teams for whom he'd be their best QB (the guy whose roster I posted just doesn't respond to trade offers... aggravating).

So, here's the dilemma: If I can't trade him, would you:
a) trade Rivers while his value is at an all-time high and roll with Cutler and Hasselbeck
b) drop one of Cutler or Hasselbeck (note that when Rivers has his toughest matchups, MH has great ones and Cutler doesn't have particularly good ones)
c) hold on to all three and wait for someone else's QB to get injured.

I'd probably go with A. I'm sure you could get a solid RB or WR in return for Rivers, but then again if option C comes true then his value would be even higher. Tough to say(I'm a noob at fantasy football though so...)

I'm currently being offered Cutler and McGahee for Rivers, and I'm leaning towards doing it myself.

If I do it my team would look like:

Cutler/Orton(how ironic?)
Jacobs/Bradshaw/McGahee/Sproles
Wayne/Manningham/Holt/Collie/Austin/Maclin
Shockey

Giants/GB Defense
Crosby

Any thoughts on whether I should do it? I loathe Cutler but he's been pretty solid and isn't a huge downgrade from Rivers IMO, plus I don't have to give up a RB in return. I think it's a no-brainer but I just wanted to get some other opinions first.

Now that I think about it, I don't think I will do it. I am not high on McGahee at all(Ray Rice is the real stud) and I think I can get better value for Rivers if I decided to trade him.

The problem is all I have at RB is Jacobs/Bradshaw/Sproles. I might pick up Choice again(dropped him due to the BYE) and hope Barber/Felix aren't healthy so he gets a lot of touches. There is absolutely no other RB available worth a damn.

Maybe I can try to package Rivers/Jacobs for a decent QB/stud RB though.

More advice needed -- compare Rivers' trade value with the following: Slaton, SJax, Moreno, Witten. He's also got MJD and Wayne, so I'd obviously have to give up more to get one of them.

Current team:
Rivers / Cutler / Hasselbeck
Turner / LT / Bradshaw / Cadillac
Smith / Bowe / Ward / Avery
Finley

New team, new target, new and lower standards -- would you trade Cutler for Burleson? Current team:

Rivers / Cutler
Turner / LT / Bradshaw / Maroney / Greene
Smith 1.0 / Bowe / Ward / Collie
Olsen

I would plan on going without a backup QB for the rest of the year -- Rivers only has two bad-ish matchups the rest of the year (two weeks after this, @NYG then home v. PHI). Cutler has decent matchups those week, but I think I've got to go for the WR depth, right?
