Scouting Report

Royals: Bannister didn't have his best stuff on Sunday afternoon at Kauffman Stadium, but he still delivered a serviceable performance, allowing four runs over six innings to win his fourth straight start. It was the first time in four starts Bannister didn't have great stuff -- in his previous three starts, he was 3-0 with a 0.41 ERA. The right-hander has been solid all year and has been even better away (2.48 ERA) than at home (3.52). This will be Bannister's second career start against Milwaukee, sporting a 1-0 record with a 1.80 ERA lifetime vs. the Brewers.

Brewers: Bush won for the first time in more than a month, pitching 6 1/3 innings at Minnesota on Saturday night in Milwaukee's fourth straight win. Bush threw 104 pitches, topping the century mark for the first time since he threw a season-high 111 pitches May 3, and won for the first time since May 8. Saturday's win was Bush's fifth "quality start" this season of six or more innings and three or fewer runs. He will be pitching on two extra days of rest for this start.

I will be there also. Its my friends bachelor party so were getting there right when the parking lot opens and will be drinking till game time  ...should be a good time. I want the crew to win but I kinda want Bush to struggle so its an easy decision for Yost and Melvin once Cappy comes back.

Bush is pitching for his job in the rotation, so he's motivated. He had the same motivation in his last start and it pitched well.

J.J. Hardy was not in the Milwaukee Brewers' lineup Friday night because of continuing back stiffness, but neither he nor manager Ned Yost was sounding any alarms.

"It's actually been pretty good," Hardy said of his back. "I've been keeping up with all my exercises and stretching this year more than I have in the past."

Nonetheless, the fact that Hardy was not deemed ready for action after playing only three innings Wednesday and getting a day off Thursday might be some cause for concern.

Craig Counsell started at shortstop Friday night. Counsell also started there Tuesday night when Hardy was scratched a couple of hours before game time with a tight hip flexor. The hip was the second of three nagging body parts for Hardy.

"I came back from Minnesota and my (left) knee was bugging me," Hardy said. "I think I favored my knee a little bit and hurt my hip, and then I favored my hip the other day and my back hurts. But my knee and my hip, they're both fine, and now it's a matter of getting my back right and then hopefully it's all in the past."

With all those aches, the 24-year-old Hardy kiddingly was asked whether he was getting old.

"People keep asking me how old I am," he said. "I don't know. I don't know what it is."

Yost said Hardy's condition was such that he could play if it became necessary.

"He'd be available if I need him, but just go ahead and let him get it knocked out," Yost said of the back problem. "And it's more stiff when he stands straight up than when he bends over.

"It's not anything that's going to be an exceptionally long time. It's just day to day. I'll sit him today and I'll probably sit him tomorrow."

If this team keeps hitting as well as it has the past few games then even with Dave Bush pitching we should win. Won 8 of 9 so far.

I'll be there tonight as well. I'm not exactly sure where the seats are (a relative picked them up from work and wasn't specific enough), but from past experience with him, they're usually field level behind home plate. Very very nice!

Well this Bannister guy looks like he actually can pitch in the majors so I doubt we score 11 runs again. But I think we keep the streak up tonight. Go Brewers!

Bannister went 5 innings against the Brewers last year when he was with the Mets and gave up 1 run however he gave up 6 hits and 5 walks in those 5 innings.
