OT: Did I mess up my fantasy football draft?

Post#1 » by AmazingJason » Mon Sep 6, 2010 3:17 am

This year we decided to do an auction draft for the first time. There was some wild bidding in the 1st few rounds and I inexplicably got caught up in it. I ended up overbidding and blowing all of my money on 5 players. It's a 12 team league with 2 QBs, 2 RBs, 2 WRs, 1 TE, 1 Flex, 1 K, 1 Defense.

QB1 - Brett Favre
QB2 - Charlie Batch (sigh)
WR1 - Calvin Johnson
WR2 - Robert Meachem
RB1 - Michael Turner
RB2 - Ryan Matthews
TE - Antonio Gates
Flex - Tim Hightower

Bench - Houshmandzadeh, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Dennis Dixon, Seneca Wallace, Earl Bennett, Marshawn Lynch

I'm praying that Housh catches on with either Minnesota or Washington and I can eventually start him at WR2. I'm also praying that one of Batch or Dixon gets the 4 starts in place of Big Ben, and in the meantime, either Fitzpatrick or Wallace takes over for the crappy 1st stringers (Trent Edwards, Derek Anderson). Either that or some other QB gets injured and I pick up their backup.

I have a tentative offer on the table: Marion Barber/Matt Ryan for Ryan Matthews. Should I pull the trigger?

Leftwitch is out. So Dixon will probably start. Housh will find a job and when he does, your team is most likely elite.

:o :o :o at those prices.

Favre at 33????? Turner at 57? Matthews at 46?? Probably overpaid at least 50 bucks between those 3. Those are team killer deals.

I like the prices for Gates and Johnson. Going to need to work the wire.

edit for excess.

Housh will get a gig somewhere else so hold onto him. Like others said, Drop Seneca Wallace and try to get a high upside WR/RB off of waivers.

I would pick up Brandon Lloyd. I think he's going to have a breakout season.

Hmm, someone offered me Ryan Grant and Jason Campbell for Ryan Matthews. I think I'm going to pull the trigger on this one...

the only pick that is kinda bad is the favre pick...$33 would have been better of spent on another QB...especially since your QB #2 isnt very strong.

and the Housh pick was tough cuz now your just hoping he does well on another team.

other than that i have no complaints with the rest of your team. not much depth though.

Ok, I'm going to counter-offer with Ryan Matthews for Ryan Grant and David Garrard.

Why? Garrard sucks too. Just hold onto Mathews. he's going to be really good.

It's a 2-QB league, and right now I have a platoon of Dixon or Batch for 4 games with Brett Favre as my #1, so I'll need some kind of QB eventually. Matthews is getting a lot of hype and deservedly so, but the odds are that he'll end on the same tier as Grant, perhaps slightly better, while I get a safe, lower-tier QB for my QB2. I'm in the type of league where many teams will carry 4-5 QBs, so both the starters and their backups have already been taken.
