Week 2 Starter Advice

Post#1 » by NW7 » Wed Sep 12, 2012 7:13 pm

Got three questions this week.

First in my weird scoring league (of note: PPR and 15 return yards per point), pick my #2 and #3 WR's:
- Antonio Brown
- Demaryius Thomas
- Stevie Johnson

Really having a hard time deciding who to start in the lineup. Leaning Thomas and Brown but not super comfortable with that at the moment.

Pick my WR (standard Yahoo scoring):
- Eric Decker
- Randall Cobb

Sort of like the match-up for both of these guys, obviously only considering Cobb if Jennings is out. Leaning Decker here, but not completely enamored with that pick.

Pick my flex spot (standard Yahoo scoring):
- Trent Richardson
- Michael Bush
- Randall Cobb/Eric Decker (whichever you don't pick for the WR spot above)

I have to go Richardson here at the flex spot, right?

I think you have to start Thomas since Atlanta just lost Grimes for the year. I'd lean Brown over Johnson for the return yards, but you may have to sweat it out against the Jets.

Pick my WR (standard Yahoo scoring):
- Eric Decker
- Randall Cobb

Even with Jennings out, Cobb is a risk. You have no way of knowing how the work is divided between Nelson, Finley, Cobb, and Jones. Atlanta's run defense is solid, and Manning always shines in primetime games, so I think you have to go Decker.

Pick my flex spot (standard Yahoo scoring):
- Trent Richardson
- Michael Bush
- Randall Cobb/Eric Decker (whichever you don't pick for the WR spot above)

I think I take the receiver. Richardson s going to be a great back, but I read that there was exactly ONE time all game against Philly where he was able to plant his leg (the one with the recovering knee) firmly and make a cut. If he can't make people miss, then he's going to give you 19 carries for 60 yards. Then you're hoping Weeden can lead the team close enough to the endzone for a goal line TD rush. Bush is tempting, but he's TD only and Cutler is going to get to air it out against the Packers.

My dilemma:

RB - Morris, Sproles, Dwyer, or Benson
WR - Maclin, Decker, or T, Young.
Flex - whoever's left over.

Morris is borderline must start against the Rams, but we all know the Shanahan deal. Think I probably go with Morris, Sproles, and then Maclin if he's healthy and Decker otherwise.

I'd do the same, as Flex I assume its Decker?

I need help as well, want to see what people think about starting Britt?
My WR core: Julio Jones, Harvin, Britt
My Rb core: Mccoy, Ridley, MJD
out of these 6, help me chose 5 (2 of each, one @ flex)....so right now I was thinking Ridley/Mccoy, Harvin/Jones and Britt @flex. MJD might still be rusty and Hou is a good run D even if its in Jax. Thoughts?

I think Britt is the clear odd man out this week. Too much risk, plus your other options are all very good and I dont think MJD will be affected like CJ was last year bc they are different types of RB's.

Week 2 Starter Advice

Britt's on a snap count this week I believe so not him.

And I'd go GB D. The secondary is suspect and they'll get scored on but they always find ways to put up points. That Chicago O line is still bad.

For me in .5 PPR for my flex:
K. Smith at SF
Dwyer vs NYJ
M Bush at GB
Collie (assuming he plays) vs MIN (put a ww bid in for him)

Same league at TE:
Tamme at ATL
Rudolph at IND

Also, this is going to sound ridiculous but in .5 PPR:

CJ.004K or Morris...the rest of my team is pretty good if makes a difference (safe vs upside)

Sorry, didn't make it clear -- need one of each. I'm saying that I go Morris and Sproles at RB and flex, and then either Maclin or Decker at WR. Happy to hear arguments either way.

Bench Britt and it's not close. With the other 5, you can pretty safely expect double digit points (or close to it). Britt is still coming back from a bad knee injury, and has had no time to practice with Locker. Munchak has said he expects Britt to only get between 15-25 snaps. He might turn 3 of them into 160 yards and a score, but I'm not taking that chance yet.

I agree with your picks. You got to ride the Morris train for now. He's going to put up a zero at some point in the next four or five weeks but I really doubt it this one. Shanny has to feel pretty good after the NO game about the guys out there.

Edit: just saw your clarification. I'd go Maclin. I think we need another week at least to figure out how the targets are going to shake out in Denver. Maclin is too safe to mess around with. I think Decker will be solid though too. That game should be a shoot out.

depends on how healthy Maclin is, if not then Decker is a go, I read somewhere Atl top corner Grimes is out for rest of season so whichever best DB/CB will probably be put on D. Thomas leaving Decker with weaker corner on him.

@bank shot
i have no clue on the flex, looks tough
but I'd choose Rudolph, bad indy D and Ponder seems to target Rudolph quite often.

I am thinking of taking my chance to bench DeSean Jackson(Against the Ravens defense.), and start Cobbs(Against the Bears defense.) over him but not to sure if that is a good idea or not? What do you think?

2 of 3 "Fantasy Experts" that I've seen say take Cobb over DJax. Tough call though.

For me:

1. TRich or M Bush (Standard Scoring)
2. Pick 3: Welker/Harvin/A Brown/Decker/T Smith. (Standard Scoring)

Thanks!

I would definitely start Thomas and Jackson, and then decide between Floyd and Cobb as your third WR.

Thomas and Jackson are your best WRs here. If you are going to sit Jackson, it would need to be for a much safer play than Cobb, who is trending up but is relatively unproven, and is no guarantee to get consistent targets from Rogers. If you want to go safe, play Floyd. If you want to go upside, play Cobb.

I love Brown this year, but the Jets will be a tough out.

Both are solid plays though.

Have to start Thomas versus that banged up secondary in what should be a high scoring game.

This is another one where I don't think you can go wrong, but I'll go with Decker, again versus that banged up secondary in what should be a high scoring game.

I have to go Richardson here at the flex spot, right?

I'm going to go Bush here.

I do like Richardson versus this match up some. Think he can get 100 yards total and a TD. But he also might bomb. More likely is probably 80 total yards with no touchdown.

I don't expect weeks such as week one every week for Bush, but this is a soft run defense, I can see him doing 40 to 100 total yards a TD or 2 again.
