Trade... Even worth it?

Post#1 » by gobullschi » Wed Sep 19, 2012 11:41 pm

I'm in a 12 team League.

My current team is:
QB: Matt Schaub
RB: Darren McFadden
RB: Trent Richardson
FLEX: Willis McGahee
WR: Roddy White
WR: Miles Austin
TE: Jason Witten
BENCH:
Vincent Jackson
Reggie Wayne
Shonn Greene
Donald Brown
David Wilson

So I think I got a pretty solid team. 3 solid RB and 3 solid WR... The situation I am in is whether it is worth it to trade and upgrade my team slightly...or not trade and don't give another team help.

Basically there is a guy in my league with a horrible team. He did however draft Tom Brady and RGIII. He wants to trade me Tom Brady and Peyton Hillis for McGahee, Vincent Jackson, and Shonn Green...

Is upgrading Schaub to Brady worth the drop off from McGahee to Brown or Hillis? AND is it worth improving his team (his RBs are Benson and Pierre Thomas)

Don't worry about what it does for his team, I would do it though. The Texans' offense isn't what it was two years ago, and now throw less often than most teams. The upgrade you get at QB in this deal is enormous. Reggie Wayne looks good with Luck in town, and should be a serviceable 3rd WR in place of Jackson, who exploited a favorable matchup against the Giants this week, and this may be a decent time to move him. Losing Mcgahee is probably the biggest loss, but between Wayne, Brown and Hillis (could have some value if Charles' knee continues to act up) you shouldn't have a problem getting a nice matchup at the flex spot. I'm not a big Greene fan and wouldn't feel comfortable starting him most weeks anyway, and that was before the concussion. Basically you're swapping depth for a major upgrade to your starting lineup. If you end up doing this deal, I'd check to see if Mike Goodson is available, just in case RunDMC goes down.

Your only giving one of your starters, who is not elite, for someone who is an elite fantasy QB..His value is at its lowest right now. Brady doubles your QB productions. Its a no brainer

Yes, you do this all day.

You can always fill your Flex off the wire and if this is PPR Wayne is a great option anyway.

You're only losing one starter for a top QB. Even though I think Brady is on the decline and they're going to continue running the ball a lot. Brady is still going to be good for say 4500 and 35 with low INT's, where as Schaub is looking like a 4100 and 22 with double digit INT's type of guy this year, the Texans run all day long.

This is a big upgrade.

Shonne Greene is the definition of meh and you're not likely to use VJax much anyway, he's a trade chip to you, so cash that chip in.

McGahee still has it, but he's not going to go off every week anyway and the bottom line is you have to give to get.

Update: Managed to pull off the trade and keep Shonn Greene.

So it ended up being: Willis McGahee and Vincent Jackson for Tom Brady and Peyton Hillis. Very happy with the move. Thanks for the push to pull the trigger.

Fantastic trade. Pretty much a perfect sell high trade on your end and a great buy low (for both players really). Nice job.

Good trade, but Schaub looked great this past week, might want to keep him in mind based on match-ups

Schaub is a good real life quarterback and has weapons, he's going to occasionally have big games, he's had huge yardage seasons in the past, but it doesn't change that the Texans have completely shifted to run, run, run.

He'll have a few big games and a number of solid games fantasy wise, but I can't see benching Brady in favor of him very often if really ever no matter the match up.

The weeks when Schaub goes off are going to be nearly unpredictable considering how strong that defense is as well.

There will probably be 2 or 3 weeks over the season where you can honestly say, he is a great play this week and even then if he winds up throwing 2 TD's with like 90 yards and the defense pick 6's the other team to the tune of something like a 21 to 3 lead by mid second quarter, all they will do is run, run, run again for the most part and he'll finish with some line like 190 yards on great percentages with 2 TD's.
