Tough Trade Proposal

Post#1 » by joeposh » Wed Sep 11, 2013 4:26 pm

There's a guy in my 12-man who is absolutely desolate at TE, and lost out on the waiver wire competition for Thomas and Cameron this week. I have Jimmy Graham as my starter and Jared Cook on my bench, so I've targeted Chris Johnson since he has some RB depth and Johnson is coming off a tough week.

My initial offer (obviously a low ball) was:

Jared Cook and Rashard Mendenhall

for

Chris Johnson and Josh Gordon

He scoffed pre-waiver wire, but after getting shut out countered with

Jared Cook, Rashard Mendenhall and Randall Cobb

for

Mike Wallace and Chris Johnson

I'm really tempted, but am concerned about having Garcon and Wallace as my starting WR's (with little to no depth behind them). He also has Cecil Shorts and the aforementioned Josh Gordon on his bench, should I try and target one of them for inclusion as well? If so, do you pull the trigger on this? Even if he refuses to up the offer, is it still a good deal?

For reference, my current starting RBs are McCoy, Ridley and Lamar Miller, with Mendenhall and Bell on my bench.

That's where I'm leaning. The more I think about this trade, the more I want to simplify and get Cobb out of the equation. I have assets I can add from my bench, but I don't want to give up my clear WR1 in a 12 man.

Yeah, I'm not a believer in Wallace this year. He was boom-or-bust in Pittsburgh; it'll be worse this year in Miami. At the end of the year, he could very well be a top 24 WR on average, but it'll be on the strength of 5 great weeks and you'll have taken a hit in the other 12 (assuming you go that long).

Cook+Mendy for CJ straight up is a decent deal. You're never going to start Mendenhall as it is (he's arguably your RB5), and it frees up a roster spot early in the year which is always important to me.

You could also try Cook+Bell for CJ+Gordon. As much upside as Bell has in the case that Bush goes down, it's hard to see him even as a flex with McCoy, Ridley, Miller and CJ on board. If you really want Gordon, try upping the offer that way.
