Fantasy General Chat Thread

Sticky this one, mods.

We need a general thread, where we can randomly talk fantasy.

Let's start this one off. Will LJ and Alexander be able to break the 370+ carries curse? I am thinking Johnson will be on the IR by week 3, and Shaun will barely break 1000 yards.

Shaun is going to have a nice year, because 2006 wasn't too rough on him carry wise.

I could see LJ landing on the IR, but I could just as easily see him rush for 2,000.

Here's one - which second year back is a better keeper?

Addai, Reggie, or Jones-Drew?

Addai, he looks like a feature back in Indy, while Bush and Drew both are change of pace types. Bowling Ball was a beast last year, but can he repeat his TD production?

Priest Holmes is coming back. Is he worth picking up in the later rounds? He came back so many times, but he might not have anything left at this point.

How early should I draft a defense? Wait till later rounds or snag a dominant team early?

its kinda frustrating b/c its with family but theres 16 freakin teams goin on and i have the 16th pick. im somewhat fine with it b/c i love picks at beginning or ends of rounds. but me and my dad (who has the 14th) and one of my uncles are about the only ones with a clue and he has the 6th pick.

How many rounds/teams are there?

Generally speaking, if drafting a team defense let someone else make the first pick. Defenses are, by and large, interchangeable after the top 2, so it doesn

So right now im in a league and its about a week before the draft. The scoring system is a little different than most, so I just wanted to get a little input on some things before I draft.

Here is the offensive scoring format:

-Completions (10)
-Passing Yards (3 yards per point; 40 points at 300 yards; 80 points at 360 yards; 120 points at 420 yards)
-Passing Touchdowns (60)
-Interceptions (-20)
-Sacks (-10)
-Rushing Yards (1 yards per point; 40 points at 100 yards; 80 points at 150 yards; 120 points at 200 yards)
-Rushing Touchdowns (60)
-Receptions (30)
-Reception Yards (1 yards per point; 40 points at 100 yards; 80 points at 150 yards; 120 points at 200 yards)
-Reception Touchdowns (60)
-Return Touchdowns (100)
-2-Point Conversions (30)
-Fumbles Lost (-20)

Roster spots are QB, WR, WR, RB, RB, TE, W/T, W/R, K, DEF, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN

So obviously with receptions and completions counting as points, the quality of your QBs and WRs is much more important. But im just wondering how much more important they really are. In most leagues, the top few picks and most of the 1st round is straight RBs....but in this case, wouldn't the 1st round focus be more primarily on getting a good QB, or a RB who catches the ball a lot. And guys like Willie Parker, Joseph Addai, and Rudi Johnson, who are usually top 8 picks or so, shouldn't be taken nearly as high?

I guess im just looking for some advice on how to set up my pre-draft rankings(just in case i cant make it, I don't want to be royally **** by the default yahoo rankings) and get a general idea of how I should go about the first few rounds of the draft(its a 16 team league).

Thanks.

The scoring is a bit wacky. Brian Westbrook is like the 3/4th pick in this system.

Okay, When is the best time to pick? I am doing a bunch of mocks on ESPN and obviously having #1 is awesome. However, I am also finding out that you would rather want to be in the 8-12 range than 4-7 this year since you can get better value in the first two rounds and have a shot at a good QB in the 3rd or 4th. What do you guys think?

Yeah.....Im kind of glad its like this though, because there is a good chance more than a few GMs won't really pay attention to it, and ill be able to get some very valuable players.

I just wanted to make sure im clear on this though.....

Here is a screen shot of the players page, ranked by their fantasy points last season. Im assuming the pts and ranking is based on the scoring system of the way the league is right now.....

As you can see.....QBs and WRs are far more valuable than in most regular leagues. And actually, based on last year, there are only about 6 RBs who are actually worth a damn in this format....where as there are a whole lot more QBs and WRs who are really good(the 16th best QB had as many points as the 6th best running back).

So I guess.....even though QBs and WRs are much more valuable, due to the lack of depth at RB, it'd be wise to still try and pick up a highly rated back in the 1st round(if possible), and then get my QB and receivers later on......?

best cash league site besides cbs sportsline? $40 to win $200 in a 12 man league is pretty awful.

I traded Larry Johnson and Marvin Harrison for LT. Any thoughts?

Edited to say Have your draft party at BW3s. We got $100 worth of free food and a big draft board with stickers, plus draft guide books. It was very nice.

i would say you gave up too much... LJ and MH are 1st and 2nd round picks for a 1st rounder... i just dont see the extra value you'd be getting in LT versus LJ unless LJ does in fact sit out some games which I don't think will happen. He's gotten his rest from his massive amount of carries last year by sitting out training camp and such so I think he'll have another great year.
