My Cash League Team

Post#1 » by Basketball Jesus » Wed Aug 27, 2008 3:53 pm

Ten team H2H league:

QB: Tom Brady
QB: Matt Schaub
RB: Reggie Bush
RB: Maurice Jones-Drew
WR: Santonio Holmes
WR: Jerrico Cotchery
RB/WR: Earnest Graham
TE: Owen Daniels
D/ST: Philadelphia Eagles
K: David Akers
B: DeAngelo Williams
B: Laveraneus Coles
B: Kurt Warner
B: Anthony Gonzalez (WR)
B: Vernon Davis
B: Arnaz Battle
B: Jerious Norwood
B: Baltimore Ravens

A few wrinkles in the scoring:

- Pass/Rush/Receiving TDs all worth six points apiece
- INTs -2 for QBs
- Passing bonuses: 50+ yard TD (3), 300-399 yard game (3) 400+ yard game (5), and 1 pt for every 25 yards.
- Rushing bonuses: 50+ yard TD (3), 100-199 yard game (3), 200+ game (5), and 1 pt for every 10 yards
-Receiving bonuses: 50+ yard TD (3), 100-199 yard game (3), 200+ game (5), 1 point per reception, and 1 pt for every 10 yards
- Defense bonuses: shutout (10), under 100 total yards allowed (10), 7-13 points allowed (4)

The rest are standard scoring stats

Some notes:

- Drafted Brady with the second overall pick. With 2 starting QBs and the passing bonus structure, this is a QB-make-or-break league and I felt the drop-off between a top-tier QB and the league average was greater than that of RBs.

- Took Reggie Bush in the third. With the PPR bonus and receiving/rushing TDs counting the same, Bush seemed like a good risk to take, especially since most of the premier backs were off the board by then.

- I like my RB depth a lot and my QB depth is probably second or third in the league. The obvious winner being the team that drafted both Mannings and Vince Young. Everybody else has one OK QB and two marginal ones.

- I could use more depth at WR as I’m not sold on anybody outside of Holmes and even he makes me iffy.

- I underestimated the league this year. Last season almost everybody went RB-RB-QB without exception and the teams with the best QB tandems all made the playoffs. I assumed there was going to be an early rush on QBs but, for the most part, everybody stayed cool and went RB-QB-RB instead of QB-RB-QB like I expected. Also, a lot of my sleeper picks (Mendenhall, Chris Johnson, etc.) were drafted way too early for my liking.

- Grabbed Baltimore D with the penultimate pick in the draft. Possibly the best pick I made all day.

Now, I’m thinking of flipping a back for a better receiver. I’d be more inclined to flip Norwood since he’s probably the weakest of the group but I could get a better return if I dealt Deangelo Williams. Should I? I could probably get a top-tier WR (like Andre Johnson-level) for him.

you have good RB, and QB depth
good call on getting brady because of the 6 points passing TD's

your WR's aren't great, a trade probably is a good idea

i'm not a fan of deangelo williams so i'd trade him

Solid team! I think Reggie Bush is going to finally have a good year and score more touchdowns.

If you can get a top-tier WR for Deangelo Williams I would do it.

Cotchery, Graham, Daniels, Norwood... someone did their homework. Those probably make at least half of the top 10 sleeper lists around.

If Meachum from the Saints isn't picked up in your league I'd take a look at him.

Yup. Second year in a row I lose a starting QB in the first two games of the year.

Waiver bid for Cassel (1), Collins (2), Huard (3). Fourth in waiver priority. Doubt I land Cassel, but I’m in good position to land Collins or Huard.

With the starters now Schaub (meh as #1) and Warner (eww), I’ve been peddling my backup RBs for a good starter. Right now I have some interest in Deangelo Williams but he’s only going to net me a Warner-level talent. Do I do it? Or do I ride the wave of glorious RB talent and mediocre QBs?

Ugh. Apparently things have taken a turn for the worse. The two teams that were willing to trade for Williams (one offering Jeff Garcia, the other offering Jay Cutler) now want Bush instead and aren’t willing to budge off that.

I’m assuming I land Kerry Collins (hooray crazy Vince Young) with my waiver bid and am hoping for Cassel, so I think I’ll stand pat for the time being.
