NFL 09 SEASON WK 1 START/SIT

Post#1 » by Shady Franchise » Thu Sep 3, 2009 4:09 pm

Hey guys thought I'd start off the start/sit discussion a week early.

Should I start Dwayne Bowe @ Bal or Devin Hester @ GB as my wr3? AJ and R White are no brainers at the wr1 and wr2 positions.

Thanks for the advice in advance! Can't wait for the season to start!

If you're not sure who to start, always lean toward the better player. In this case, Bowe.

Unless you get points for return yards and/or TD's Bowe is pretty much a no brainer. Despite KC's offensive woes/QB injury concerns he's easily a superior wideout. No need to get cute in week 1.

PPR League

Derrick Mason @ KC or Jerricho Cotchery @ HOU

Reggie Bush @ Det or Knowshon Moreno @ CIN

I go Cotchery, they're gonna be throwing to keep up, where as Mason might get a few catches and then they'll just run the ball down KC's throat and clockk manage, plus the defense might score 2 or 3 TD's including special teams,

I think I go Bush there as well, Moreno might not play and if he does he will likely split carries with Correll Buckhalter and Hillis.

By the way, OP, are you in a PPR league? How many yards a point? Any bonuses?

Hmm...
Chris Johnson is too good to bench for a commitee at a tough run defense team.

I go Bowe as well, you don't draft studs early to bench them for late round rookies and although Baltimore's defense is rediculous, they will likely get out to an early lead and therefore KC is going to be throwing and throwing and throwing to try and catch up and keep up and Bowe will at least get 5 catches for some good yardage and maybe gets in the end zone.

Debating on my flex spot.

A. Gonzalez v. Jacksonville
H. Ward v. Tennessee
K. Walter v. NY Jets
A. Bradshaw v. Washington

All are home games.

I'd go Gonzalez or Ward. pretty much a toss up there. Ward is consistent, and Gonzalez has major upside now a he's a starting WR, and Wayne will get most of the attention from opposing defenses. I'[d say go with Ward this week.

As my third WR/TE, Kevin Walter, or Percy Harvin? i may go Walter and then just keep an eye on Harvin's utilization.

Im thinking the opposite though, because Johnsons playing a really tough defense obviously- and he gets his yards on toss plays, and its hard to run good toss plays against a 3-4 nevermind Pittsburgh. Plus Felix Jones, i LOVE him, he averaged 9 yards a carry last year before he got hurt, plus he also returns kicks and is going against a slack Tampa defense.

Bowe just got had his OC fired and is still new with Cassell and plays Baltimore, so i'm thinking ill stick with harvin whos playing cleveland and will be returning kicks. Plus, minny probably has some tricks up their sleeve for him that they could surprise cleveland with.

As far as I knew, Walter has a groin injury and is questionable for week one.
That's the one you better keep your eye on.

This is a tough one because they both suck this week.
I think I go Ward, but only because there is a real chance LJ only gets literally 10 touches when KC falls way behind early.

Sorry for the delayed response guys, been on vacation. Thanks for the advice. I'm going to stick with Bowe vs Bal because he is the better player by far to Hester. Also, the only position that gets return points is the DST, so Hester won't get the points or yards there. Also, just thought I'd comment because I saw the Chris Johnson question...The guy I'm playing against in week 1 is starting Ray Rice over C. Johnson. I would start Chris Johnson, but thats just me. Even if Rice gets a TD, he doesn't get many yards and he is in an awful RBBC. I just fear Chris Johnson's break away runs for the TD with a bunch of yards.
