I bought tickets to Matsuzaka's 1st fenway start a little over a week ago but thanks to Cleveland's horrific weather; I'll get to watch King Felix pitch as well. Can't really ask for a better or more exciting pitching matchup than that.

This series has major sweep potential.

Here's hoping that Josh keeps throwing the Curveball.

Weather looks to be chilly.

Expecting about 5

It's actually really nice in Fitchburg right now, not too cold. Obviously, it's different in Boston but it's not too bad so i think Beckett's curve may be working earlier than expected.

The Sox better eat that fine and let Pesky sit on the bench today. 'll pitch in $10 to pay for it. mahalo

Yikes, any questions about the offense, quickly answered. Although it was Jeff Weaver.

Did Mirabelli pinch hit for Ortiz? doesn't Beckett have to bat now?

I love the Red Sox and Josh Beckett is a god. As soon as Lester gets back in the 5 hole this pitching rotation and Pap closing is going to be scary good. 13-1 is just a great offensive showing.

Very good game by Beckett, much more selective with his pitches. The offense woke up today partly thanks to Jeff Weaver... we'll take it!

J.D.Drew with a great start to the season...

Please tell me Mike Timlin isn't going to be the setup man. Ugh.

Why take Beckett out after 84 pitches? This is the best game he's had in a Red Sox uniform. Let him go for the complete game, Coma.

I hate Francona as much as anyone and love to see players do things like complete games, strike out 10, etc. but Francona's job is to win games and setup his team to win games in the future if the game is already in hand. To get a complete game, he likely would've had to go over 100 pitches in a 14-1 game that they had already won. No point in risking injury/fatigue down the stretch when you have the game won.

As for the game; can't ask for much more. That is the best performance I've seen from Beckett since joining the Red Sox. His command, curve and even changeup were anywhere from excellent to very good and his fastball was just overpowering. That is the type of pitcher I was hoping he'd become when he was acquired.

Offense was great but it is nice to see 'Tek hitting the ball well (going back to the Texas series, even if the results weren't there). JD Drew is a stud. Not really much bad to say about today's game.

Who else could possibly be the setup man at this point? Snyder has been a starter most of his career and has had tons of surgerys. He shouldn't pitch as many innings as a relief pitcher this season, as a setup man would need too. He can be good but they should take things slow with him.

Pineiro and Romero have been awful. Okajima gave up a lot of home runs in spring training, but I haven't seen enough of him. Also unproven.

Donnely and Lopez are the only other options. Donnely is definitly an option but Timlin has proven that he can pitch up to 80 innings when healthy in a season. Lopez has had a nice start and spring training, but is completely unproven.
