Re: 2023 Falcons Offseason Thread
Falcons signed DB Mike Hughes to a two-year contract.
Hughes started six games for the Lions in 2022 but has largely not lived up to expectations after being selected in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft, starting only 18 games over the first five seasons of his career. Hughes should compete for a starting job in camp for a franchise suddenly healthy in the way of depth in the secondary.

An excerpt from The Athletic
Falcons 2023 draft takeaways
The Falcons will enter the season believing they are a contender in the NFC South, and they are. Carolina added No. 1 pick Bryce Young, a quarterback out of Alabama. New Orleans will be entering the first year of the Derek Carr era, and Tampa Bay seems ready to play with either Baker Mayfield or Kyle Trask because the Buccaneers didn’t draft a quarterback this weekend.
The Falcons drafted like a team that believes it’s going to be pretty good in 2023. Their offseason spending spree included handing out $179.8 million of guaranteed money. They extended Lindstrom, re-signed offensive linemen Kaleb McGary and Germain Ifedi, outside linebacker Lorenzo Carter and wide receiver KhaDarel Hodge, signed safety Jessie Bates III, defensive tackle David Onyemata, linebackers Kaden Elliss and Bud Dupree, quarterback Taylor Heinicke and cornerback Mike Hughes and traded for tight end Jonnu Smith and cornerback Jeff Okudah.
By the time the draft rolled around, a team that went 7-10 in 2022 had filled most of its roster holes, leaving it some flexibility in the draft. The selection of Robinson could take a potent offense to another level as long as Ridder can run the show efficiently. Defensively, the Falcons clearly felt good about their free-agency moves because they talked about third-round edge selection Harrison like a developmental prospect who they don’t expect much from in 2023.
“The roster is completely different now,” Falcons HC Arthur Smith said.
Essentially for Atlanta, everything will come down to Ridder. The last two months have taken the Falcons’ roster from one of the thinnest in the league to one with realistic playoff goals. If the quarterback can handle the job, they will be in the division race throughout the season.

Re: 2023 Falcons Offseason Thread
I've read two different stories of the Falcon's QB. One said that Tampa Bay had the worst QB in the NFL. Atlanta was the next worse. The other said that our QB was the worst in the NFL. All or nearly all are thought to be better than Ridder.
We know that these are the same "experts" that said, last summer, "The Atlanta Falcons will win 2 or 3 games this season."
The Falcons really liked what Patterson was able to do. They drafted another in our #8 pick this summer. Strapped with "dead" payroll prison last year they still were a pretty good team. Having all that extra money for free agents this summer, Atlanta has improved the entire team. Adding a great draft to this and four game experience for Ridder means we're ready!

Re: 2023 Falcons Offseason Thread
Falcons had a bad dead payroll problem last season. That's mostly over. We had money to spend and I believe that it
was spent wisely. Falcons had another really good draft. Waiting now to see the fruits of our labor.

Re: 2023 Falcons Offseason Thread
I continue to read about all that is wrong with this year's Atlanta Falcons team.
Can't bring myself to believe this. Except for one blow-out, last season's team were within one score of winning or at least having a tie in all our losses. Having $$$ money to spend on free agents and having a very good draft, These Birds are about to take flight!
All these talking heads can't believe. They tell us that we have the softest schedule in the entire league. They can see all the
players that have been added. Yet they have a hard time saying that Atlanta will be over .500 for the season.
