Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff has been named Sporting News magazine NFL Executive of the Year.
The Bobby Petrino era had potential to haunt the franchise, but Dimitroff immediately cleaned house in Atlanta while transforming a moribund 4-12 outfit into an 11-5 contender. The ex-Pats assistant showed a golden touch in selecting Coach of the Year Mike Smith to lead the troops, signing MVP runner-up Michael Turner, and drafting Rookie of the Year Matt Ryan.

Re: Dimitroff named NFL exec of the year
Let's see...
Came in and hired the coach of the year, drafted the OROY and signed a guy who broke the teams rushing records.
Oh yeah, and the team made the playoffs.
I don't think there was much competition for Dimitroff.
