Jadeveon Clowney vs Greg Robinson

Post#1 » by tcorbin » Thu Feb 27, 2014 7:18 pm

Two weeks ago, i would have said, make the trade to get Clowney, but after the combine and scouting, i'm definatly okay with skipping on Clowney and walking away with Greg Robinson.

The last couple of high drafted OTs have been kind of disappointing, so that is why i wasn't too excited about Robinson or Matthews, but now, it is looking like Robinson is the real deal and more than good enough to be the next Ogden, or Roaf, or Shields, or Shell. A pro bowler for the next 10-15 years.

Getting Clowney would be great, but Robinson is looking to be just as great and if Robinson is selected, the Falcons also have a great shot at getting local product Stephon Tuitt in the 2nd round.

Holy cow, it's tcorbin.

You still visiting the BBall threads, buddy?

I'd rather have Khalil Mack. He solidifies the LB corps, improves the pass rush (as an edge rusher), can match up with TEs in coverage.

We can still address DE in free agency and pick up depth in round 2.

No matter what, I just don't want us to trade up. We have the picks to bring on a slew of impact players. We could come out of this with game changers on the D-Line, LB corps to match our top young corners.

NBA is kind of boring this year, especially with the Hawks and the tank, so i haven't really been following and all the threads on the Hawks board doesn't seem interesting, so nothing for me to reply. i'm just watching alittle college and waiting for the draft (im starting to be a big fan of Rodney Hood and Glen Robinson).

im okay with the Falcons not making the trade. both Clowney and Robinson might be off the board with the 6th pick (but i think 1-5 will be quaterbacks, Clowney and Watkins), if that happens i'm okay with Matthews, Mack, or Barr.

i'm leaning more towards Matthews only because i'm a big fan of Tuitt out of Athens, GA, i think Tuitt has the body type and speed of JJ Watt or Richard Seymour. Tuitt could fall to the Falcons in the 2nd. if the Falcons take Barr or Mack, then that leaves Antonio Richardson as a possible selection in the 2nd.

if Clowney and Robinson are not around by the 6th, i'm also okay in trading down and taking Barr or Lewan and picking up an extra 4th round pick or 3rd round pick.

I'd go with Clowney no matter what if he falls, my draft board stands as:

1) Clowney
2) Robinson/Matthews
3) Mack

I don't think all four of those players will be off the board by 6, and I'd be delighted with getting any one of those players.

I remember when Lincoln Kennedy was considered a great prospect in the draft because he was a mauler in college. i'm not saying i wouldn't take Robinson with the 6th pick, but i don't think is a safe pick either. same with Clowney, he would be a good pick up with the 6th pick, but he is not a sure thing either, i just remember Jamal Anderson. Clowney is a better prospect than Jamal, but his 3 sacks last year should raise a concern that he might not be a safe pick.

You can't base it fully off stats: Clowney still had a really good season, it's just that other teams were doubling him every time. I have no doubt about Clowney's ability to become a star at DE in the NFL, my only concern is his attitude and motivation.

Clowney would be my #1 option.
