Mike Smith appreciation thread (Thank You Coach!)

Post#1 » by ATL Boy » Tue Dec 30, 2014 1:50 am

In dedication to the greatest coach in franchise history. It really eats at me that he had to leave on such bad terms, but change was needed. 5 straight winning seasons (The Falcons had never had back to back winning seasons in 40 years before), the 1 seed in the NFC twice, and a 2012 NFC Championship appearance. He left the franchise in a better state than what it was in when he came. A genuine thank you to coach Mike Smith!!

Hands down, best coach in franchise history.

I would have kept him. He was a Cowher type in my eyes. He would always struggle to outcoach other smarter guys. But give to talent, and he'd give top results. 2012 is a testament to that.

I absolutlely see him winning a super bowl someday, but admit he'd probably follow that up by missing the playoffs altogether the next year.

He was a leader of men. The fact he was fired, and then his players honor the man with a standing ovation, tells you how much he was beloved. He was a class act from start to finish.

He should be the guy Buffalo goes after. His experience turning around bad teams is documented.

I enjoyed having him during his time with us.
I believe he's a very good question that has made questionable decisions at times, but all Coaches do, and he took on too much of the blame, and TD should have received a lot more. A Coach is only going to be as good as the talent that he has and we have a great deal of holes.

I wish Mike Smith the best going forward and I hope he one days becomes a head coach once again.

Keep Smiling Coach Smith
