Falcons: Arthur Blank, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones reportedly squaring off


Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones reportedly has accused Falcons owner Arthur Blank of misleading other owners about the negotiations for commissioner Roger Goodell’s proposed new five-year contract.

Blank is the chairman of the league’s compensation committee. Jones contends that Blank has ‘misled’ the owners regarding “critical facts” about the negotiations.

Coincidentally, the Cowboys play the Falcons at 4:25 p.m. Sunday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Jerry Jones threatens to sue NFL if Roger Goodell's contract extension is approved

The Times reported that Jones, in a conference call last week with the six owners on the compensation committee, told them that legal papers were drawn up and would be served Friday if the committee did not scrap its plans to extend Goodell's contract. The Times also reported that after Jones spoke to the committee, the owners revoked Jones' status as an ad hoc member of the compensation committee and then spoke to the other 25 owners who are not on the committee to notify them of what Jones had said.

The six members of the committee, led by Falcons owner Arthur Blank, asked Jones to leave the discussions after they learned he had hired Boies, sources told Outside the Lines.

If Jones decided to follow through with his threat, it would be the second time he has sued the NFL

Committee wants Jerry Jones to stop threatening Roger Goodell talks

The NFL's Compensation Committee has given Jerry Jones a cease-and-desist warning in response to the Dallas Cowboys owner's threat to sue the league over contract extension talks with commissioner Roger Goodell, according to The New York Times.

The committee issued the warning to Jones after holding a conference call Monday to discuss Goodell's potential extension, according to the Times.

Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank released a statement Monday, saying that the committee is still working toward an extension for Goodell and disputing Jones' assertion that owners have been misled regarding "critical facts" about the negotiations.

ESPN reported Sunday that Goodell's last written counterproposal, sent to the committee around Aug. 1, was seeking approximately $49.5 million in annual salary and also included the lifetime use of a private jet and lifetime health insurance for his family.

Goodell's contract is absurd. Is he doing that good of a job? I guarantee there are people who could do just as well that would take the job for half what they are paying him. Why do they let these salaries escalate so much.
