Falcons in Super Bowl 51

Post#1 » by Jamaaliver » Tue Jan 24, 2017 1:57 pm

ATL Dirty Birds have made a surprise run to the title game in Houston. With the top offense in the league, seems the home team has a legit shot to defeat the legendary duo of Belichik/Brady and bring home the hardware to Atlanta.

Fantastic pre-Super Bowl coverage from Peter King over at SI. Here

Anyone else excited?
Did you guys see this coming?
Feel like this is the start of a new age for the Falcs?

Or are we likely to return to the middle of the pack next season (without Kyle Shanahan)?

Patriots open as three-point favorites over Falcons in Super Bowl

The New England Patriots have opened as three-point favorites over the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl LI, according to Westgate Las Vegas. The game total has been set at 57.5.

New England was posted as the favorite before its meeting with the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC Championship Game had even ended. The Patriots went ahead 33–9 late in the third thanks to three touchdowns from Tom Brady.

The Falcons advanced to the Super Bowl with a commanding 44–21 win over the Packers just hours before the Patriots and Steelers played.

Super Bowl LI will kick off at 6:30 p.m. ET on Feb. 5.

Unbelievable season.
I truly believe we'll win the game vs the Pats.
The city of Atlanta needs this win, the fans do, and the media can kiss our ass if we do win.

Man oh man, what a year. Who would've thought we'd be here after that meltdown week 3 preseason game against the Dolphins or that incredibly disappointing season opener against the Bucs?

I think we'll win this one. Belichek will do his best to try and take away Julio, but every time a team has shifted its focus to stopping Julio this season we've won. I don't think there's any answer to stopping this offense. Our defense is peaking at the right time as well.

Yeah, Kyle Shanahan is probably the first offensive coach we've ever had that's truly capable of out-scheming Belicheat.

Kyle has a ton of character flaws as a coach and leader, but he's proven pretty adept at play-calling and Xs & Os.

We should score enough points. The bigger concern is if Dan Quinn and the unheralded defense can make enough plays to slow down the 'Great Tom Brady'.

I was wrong about Shanahan coming into this year, needed to be fired, but his play calling on the last drive in the Super Bowl was just historically, honorably, stupid.

Up 8 in the last few minutes of the 4th quarter, i really wasn't worry, i was just telling my buddy, "Falcons just need to kill the clock and get a field goal and Falcons will be fine". This is not hindsight, but I was thinking to myself, if I was Shanahan, i would just do normal play calling until the Falcons got inside the 30 yard line, then I would just call 3 running plays (maybe one shot gun play, QB running QB keeper, with the option to throw the ball away) and then just kick the field goal.

Falcons march down the field and Julio makes an amazing catch, getting the Falcons inside the 30, I was like great. I like the hand off to Freeman. At that time, i was like "good, just do that two more times, kill the clock and kick the field goal". Then Shanahan calls two passing plays that were not in the shot gun formation, which was just horribly stupid

I have no idea why Shanahan was so dumb. Both a field goal and touch down keeps it a two score game for the Falcons, with the field goal, the Falcons go up 11, with a touch down, the Falcons go up 15. In both cases, New England needs two touchdowns.

If going up 11 or 15 doesn't change what New England needs to win, then why the HELL not just kill the clock with 3 running plays and kick the field goal.

This is why people from Atlanta hate their sports teams. I don't plan to watch the Falcons next season, I don't care if they make the super bowl next year, i don't even care if they win it, because they will never be true champions. This was just a pathetic performance and shows how mentally weak the whole team is.

I feel ya, I don't care how well Ryan, Julio, Freeman, and the emergence of Jones, Beasley and now Jarrett(mvp stolen) are it's just whatever now. They'll be good I'm sure but that isn't good enough.

The Saints ghost bother you guys, and furthermore if the Saints were at the 30 ..1 n 10, Payton would have kicked the FG make Pats use time out by kneeling. ....Dumb Falcons

Your first three posts are all made trolling our board? Since I don't generally give official warnings without first giving an unofficial verbal warning you can consider this your verbal warning to knock it off.

I think...I finally just got over losing this game.

A couple of months removed, I can say that suffering the biggest collapse in SB History shouldn't negate all we accomplished this season:

Division Title
Conference Championship
MVP for Matty Ice
Sent the Georgia Dome off with consecutive playoff victories

Losing this game still hurts.
But after years of indifference, it's nice to feel something -- anything -- again for this franchise.

I like what the future will bring as long as our key players stay healthy. I expect us to be back in the Super Bowl sooner than later.

Going into the upcoming season it's just nice to know that Matt Ryan is the MVP. I will bite my tongue more often now after the way he performed last season.
