Falcons 2023 Draft: QB QB QB and more QBs

Post#1 » by atlantabbq99 » Mon May 2, 2022 3:33 pm

2023 is another QB loaded draft class. It is right now a two man race between Bryce Young and CJ Stroud, but there are 5 other QBs that could also have a breakout year (a la Joe Burrow) and compete for the #1 pick.

With the post Matt Ryan era now in full swing, the 2023 draft class is a great time for the Falcons to tank.

There are about 7 QBs in 2023 that have first round grades. They all look interesting but, besides Bryce and CJ, the one guy that also interest more than the others is Grayson McCall from Coastal Carolina.

Lets see if McCall can repeat his 2022 season, which is 74%, 27TDs, 3INTs. He doesn't have a great arm but he seems to read all his progressions 1 through 4, always makes the right throw. He reminds me alot of Steve Young.

I think Ridder will be a bust, but if I'm wrong, then great, Falcons can take Will Anderson or Jalen Carter.

Stroud and Young are still top of the list, but Grayson McCall is the best QB that nobody is talking about.

McCall just rolled passed Georgia State and so far putting up insane stats like Josh Allen or Tray Lance when they were in college.

6. Atlanta Falcons

Jalen Carter IDL, Georgia

This is a great value pick for the Falcons, as they get one of the two best players in the draft despite picking outside of the top five. Jalen Carter is a pure disruptor. Strength, body control, flexibility… Carter has it all. Stick him alongside Grady Jarrett and prosper.

6. ATLANTA FALCONS: EDGE JARED VERSE, FLORIDA STATE

Verse is one of my favorite players in this class. Previously at FCS Albany, Verse transformed his body during the COVID-impacted season and gained 40 pounds, jumping from 210 as a redshirt freshman to 250 as a junior. He was named an all-conference player that season before transferring to Florida State. In his lone season in the FBS, he not only didn't look overwhelmed, but he also dominated when healthy. He looks and feels like a total package edge rusher.

UGA WINS!!!!!!!!!!!!

but Stroud had a great game! Falcons would be lucky if Stroud falls to #6.

Ringo did not have a good game against Ohio but I would still be happy if they took him at #6.

Ringo is a pass for me.

I do like Stroud and I believe in the NFL he will be more mobile.

I have Justin Fields and Trevor Lawrence as 1a. 1b. a few years ago in the draft. I have Young and Stroud just as good as those two guys. Just like Fields, i hope some teams get it wrong on Stroud so that he slips in the draft.

I like Ringo, he didn't have a good game against MHJ but i see him as a pro blow CB. Ringo is no Deion or Champ but i could see him being as good as a Revis or Gilmore.

But I wanted the Falcons to tank from the start because i really wanted Carter! He is basically going to be the next Donald or Sapp.

I know it's never a popular opinion, but I'm okay with trading back in this draft for a King's Ransom of draft picks. I've found that good depth and cheap, controllable talent is really the most important thing in building a roster.

If we can move back 5-10 spots and pick up a 2nd rounder in the process, it should really allow us to load up on defense and the O-Line.

I'm okay if we choose to pursue another option at QB. Ridder had some moments, but there's no guarantee he's a long-term answer yet.

Reminds me of an Andy Dalton caliber of play caller. Good...not great.

Trading back depending on the deal is fine with me. We desperately need depth.

If Stroud falls to the Falcons, they have to take him, but if another team falls in love with Levis or Richardson, then maybe the Falcons can pull off trading down. If that happens, I wouldn't mind targeting Nolan Smith or the guy from Army.

2023 NFL mock draft: Mel Kiper's first-round predictions

8. Atlanta Falcons

Myles Murphy, DE, Clemson

The Falcons had just 21 sacks this season, which ranked 31st in the league, and they were led by Grady Jarrett's six. Veteran edge rusher Lorenzo Carter added four, while rookie second-round pick Arnold Ebiketie had 2.5. No other player had more than two. They have to get better along the front seven. That could start here with Murphy, a complete defender who had 17.5 sacks in three seasons at Clemson. He could even kick inside to tackle on passing downs.

Atlanta is another team with questions at quarterback, as rookie third-rounder Desmond Ridder flashed at times at the end of the season. He's not a lock to be the Week 1 starter, though I expect the organization to do deep evaluations on this draft class and bring in another player to compete with him. For now, however, Murphy is too good to pass up.

I like Stroud, but if he is not there at #8, then I would be okay with Ringo or one of the Clemson boys.

If I was the GM, i would take Ringo at 8, and then get Andre Carter or Nolan Smith in the 2nd round to address the sack problems.

Not pressuring our opponents QB and last in sacks is our biggest problem. It must be addressed. We tend to draft defensive lineman that are freaks until they play in the league and lack the drive to be great.

Falcons 'Overwhelming' Trade Destination for Ravens' Lamar Jackson?

If the Baltimore Ravens cannot reach a contract extension with Lamar Jackson, are the Atlanta Falcons still favorites to acquire the star quarterback?

According to The 33rd Team, the Falcons are still considered the favorite.

"I asked a few people where they want to see Jackson next season, and the overwhelming answer: the Atlanta Falcons," The 33rd Team said.

Despite the recent assertion of confidence from Ravens' head coach John Harbaugh, there is still uncertainty regarding the future of Jackson.

I'm a fan of Lamar but i have a cousin that lives in Baltimore and he said watching Lamar is frustrating because he really struggles to get TDs, and he converts so few 3rd downs that its basically a given that 3rd down is a punt situation. Then he also mentioned the injury issue year after year.

I'm not a fan of Stetson Bennett, but should the Falcons draft him if he is available in the 6th or 7th round?

I hope Young or Stroud can still fall to the Falcons, but i'm really starting to like Dorian Thompson-Robinson. If the Falcons go defense in the 1st round, I would love to pick up DTR in the 4th round if he is still available. Dorian Thompson-Robinson reminds me of Tony Romo.

I won't be surprised if we draft CB Joey Porter Jr. I don't expect us to draft a QB with our first overall pick.
