Atlanta Falcons 2023 Draft Grade

Grade: B

  • Round 1 (No. 8): Bijan Robinson, RB, Texas
  • Round 2 (No. 38): Matthew Bergeron, OL, Syracuse
  • Round 3 (No. 75): Zach Harrison, DL, Ohio State
  • Round 4 (No. 113): Clark Phillips III, CB, Utah
  • Round 7 (No. 224): DeMarcco Hellams, S, Alabama
  • Round 7 (No. 225): Jovaughn Gwyn, IOL, South Carolina

Did the Atlanta Falcons need to add Bijan Robinson to their third-ranked rushing attack? Probably not, but Robinson is more than a typical running back.

The fourth-ranked prospect on the B/R big board is an elite dual-threat tailback who will open up a host of options for the Falcons offense. With Tyler Allgeier, Cordarrelle Patterson, Drake London, Kyle Pitts, Mack Hollins and Scotty Miller at his disposal, second-year quarterback Desmond Ridder will have every chance to succeed in 2023.

The Falcons traded up on Day 2, grabbing Syracuse offensive lineman Matthew Bergeron with the 38th pick to further help support Ridder. Atlanta gave up the 110th pick to move from No. 44 to No. 38.

Atlanta next turned its attention to a defense that ranked 27th overall last season. Defensive lineman Zach Harrison, cornerback Clark Phillips III and safety DeMarcco Hellams will have good opportunities not only to stick with the 53-man roster but see early playing time.

Phillips, the 25th-ranked prospect on the B/R board, was a particularly valuable addition on Day 3
.

Robinson was a pure luxury pick, which brings down the Falcons' grade a bit. However, if the Falcons' plan is to have an explosive offense while getting better on defense and seeing if Ridder can be the long-term answer at quarterback, they had a sound draft.

I'm excited about our new additions.
I expect this draft to be one of our best in history.

No Defense, no QB, that doesn't win super bowls...

An elite run game hasn't won anything, Giants, Titans, Zek, AP, Gurly, etc... Faulk was the last RB to win a championship and that was over 2 decades ago, before the rules and game changed.

Bijan is a horrible pick over Carter. I just hope somebody can finally prove me wrong and Bijan can be the next Faulk and win a super bowl in the next 3 years.

EXPLOSIVE!! Why didn't the Falcons draft for defense? Seems to me that they did. Not all of our draft picks play offense.
Another thing to consider - - The best defense is a great offense. Opponent can't score if they don't have the ball. Falcons
are built to keep posession of the ball a lot. This also means that the defense gets to rest.

If, as many have said, Atlanta has the worst quarterbacks in the NFL, there has to be some really, really great ones out there.
Perhaps I'm so old I don't know any better but I believe in our QB room of Atlanta. I think they are good!

:nonono:

Now, if this Falcon team begins the season with two lossed, each one with a 49-0 score, I'm going to look pretty bad.

Building toward the Super Bowl. This is the ultimate goal. Last season was just the first step. Injuries slowed the process.
If we can have an injury free season, with the worst QB in the NFL, we know that we can suprise some "experts!"

Last year it took us several games before our offense scored a touchdown. Pathetic!

I don't see the comparison.

LOL how good would DTR be on this team right now with that OLine and Bijan

Return to Atlanta Falcons
