Falcons 2025 Draft: ATL takes Kicker in 1st RD

Post#1 » by atlantabbq99 » Thu Jan 2, 2025 7:58 am

Nah im just kidding......

But the Falcons should look into getting a kicker maybe in the 6th round?

I don't know much about kickers but i heard there are only 3 guys in 2025 worth drafting. A guy from Michigan, a guy from Florida State, and a guy from Ole Miss.

FSU's Ryan Fitzgerald, went 13 for 13 and had the longest field goal attempts 59 yards.

He's from Georgia.

I would not even be upset in using a 5th round pick to get that guy.

Another missed FG for the Falcons. For the 2024 season, Falcons are the 2nd worst FG kicking team in the entire NFL at 69%, 30-43.

The top 3 FG kicking team in the NFL are the Chargers, Bucs, and Steelers, all above 90% and all three are going to the playoffs.

Falcons need sacks but FGs is also a major major major issue!!!

Jalon Walker and Mykel Williams should be available at #15. Either guy would be a good pick for the Falcons.

It's difficult for me to trust the Falcons feont office and head coach. We desperately need a good draft and free agency.

The Arizona Republic: Shemar Stewart picked by Atlanta Falcons at No. 15
Theo Mackie writes: "The most likely path for Atlanta still seems fairly obvious: take the top edge rusher available. In this case, that’s Stewart, who makes up for his lack of production with elite athletic traits. At the combine, his 10-yard split in the 40 and his vertical jump showcased the explosiveness that teams covet coming off the edge."

CBS Sports: Shemar Stewart drafted by Atlanta Falcons with No. 15 pickNFL.com: Shemar Stewart goes to Atlanta Falcons at No. 15

NFL.com: Shemar Stewart goes to Atlanta Falcons at No. 15
Rhett Lewis writes: "The Falcons have essentially had a 'HELP WANTED' sign on the edges since Vic Beasley randomly led the league in sacks back in 2016. Consequently, Atlanta adds the freakiest athlete in this edge-rushing class and looks to turn his elite traits into better sack production."
Pete Prisco writes: "They signed Leonard Floyd to help the pass rush, but they need more than that. Stewart is a freaky athlete who didn't have the production in his career, but the skills are there. Doesn't it seem like the Falcons have needed edge help for two decades?"

Great draft!

As a Falcons fan, i'm usually furious the next day after the draft because year in and year out the Falcons make boneheaded pick after boneheaded pick, but they nailed it with Walker! Its the exact pick i would have made.

I also like the trade. I'm high on Pearce, its a good gamble. I need to research more but the Falcons might be playing 4D chess as maybe they see 2026 as a weak draft class?

Just draft Ryan Fitzgerald in the 5th or 6th round and I'll give the Falcons an +A for the draft

I love the Jalon selection.

I'm a bit conflicted on the Pearce selection. Especially with so many top EDGE Rushers still on the board at the top of the 2nd Round today.
(Like think about it...Walker is a better player but Pearce cost almost twice as much to acquire?!)

I said this about a year ago on another board, but Walker reminds me of Justin Houston when he was in UGA

Jalon Walker fit, draft grade and scouting intel

The Atlanta Falcons have added one of the top defensive line prospects in this class, selecting Georgia edge rusher Jalon Walker with the No. 15 pick of the 2025 NFL Draft.

Walker led Georgia in almost every pass-rush metric in 2024, including sacks (6 1/2), tackles for loss (11), pressures (34) and pass-rush win percentage (17.2), all while ranking just seventh on the team in pass-rush snaps. The effort earned Walker first-team All-America honors, second-team All-SEC and the Butkus Award, which is given to the best linebacker in college football.

As a pass rusher, the 6-foot-1, 243-pound Walker is a bit undersized and struggles against larger linemen at the point of attack. However, Walker has flashed great athleticism in space with incredible range and physicality. The speed at which he plays, coupled with his skills on the edge, make him a very interesting prospect for defenses.

Atlanta should rejoice with this selection. Rarely does need and value meet like this but it worked out perfectly with Walker sliding down. The No. 5 player overall by The Athletic’s Dane Brugler, Walker was the ultimate weapon at Georgia and played a role similar to how Micah Parsons is used in Dallas. Walker won the Butkus Award as the nation’s top linebacker, but he translates primarily to an NFL edge rusher. Last year, Walker registered 6 1/2 sacks and 10 1/2 tackles for loss. His explosiveness is obvious although his size may give teams pause to install him as a permanent edge rusher. But that’s overthinking it. Walker is outstanding. Grade: A-plus

The Falcons have plenty of holes on defense, and Walker can fill several of them from snap to snap. The 6-1, 243-pounder played everywhere from edge rusher to inside linebacker to hybrid safety for the Bulldogs. First-year Atlanta defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich has stressed that he wants a hybrid defense that can show off.

Walker becomes an immediate starter at outside linebacker opposite free-agency acquisition Leonard Floyd. The position was Atlanta’s biggest area of need coming off the 2024 season, when the Falcons finished 31st in the NFL in sacks (31).
