The massive left guard, who goes by Toniu, wants to put injuries, weight problems and a tumultuous family feud behind him and land a roster spot with the Falcons.
"There are a lot of things outside of football that get to you," Fonoti said. "If you don't know how to handle them, you pretty much will drown. So then you start drowning in everything else besides football."
The 6-foot-4, 350-pound Fonoti lost almost two seasons to injury, ballooned to 390 pounds and saw his wife and mother feuding early in his marriage. Last season, Fonoti, 25, nearly bounced out of the league after stops in Tampa Bay and Miami.

Fonoti has caught the attention of head coach Bobby Petrino.
"He'll certainly be in the mix," Petrino said. "The one thing about our offensive line, it looks like we'll have a lot of competition."
